BSP chief Mayawati on Sunday declared her nephew Akash Anand as her "uttaradhikari (heir)", a party office-bearer said. "Akash (Anand) has been declared the 'uttaradhikari (heir)' by Mayawatiji," Udayveer Singh, the BSP's Shahjahanpur district unit chief, told reporters. "He (Anand) has been given the responsibility to strengthen the party organisation all over the country except Uttar Pradesh," Singh added. The party's official statement, however, did not mention any such decision. Singh said Mayawati announced the decision during a meeting in the district that was attended by party leaders from across the country. More than 7.43 lakh "fake" job cards under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme were deleted in 2022-23, of which over 2.96 lakh were in Uttar Pradesh, the Centre has said in the Lok Sabha. In a written response to a question this week, Minister of State for Rural Development Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti shared data on fake job cards. The data showed 7,43,457 fake job cards were deleted in 2022-23 and 3,06,944 in 2021-22. Uttar Pradesh accounted for the highest number of deletions on account of job cards being fake. As many as 67,937 fake job cards were deleted in Uttar Pradesh in 2021-23 and the number increased to 2,96,464 in 2022-23. Odisha came second with 1,14,333 job cards being deleted in 2022-23 and 50,817 in 2021-22. In Madhya Pradesh, 27,859 fake job cards were deleted in the last fiscal and 95,209 in 2021-22. The corresponding figures for Bihar was 80,203 and 27,062. In Jharkhand, 70,673 job cards were deleted in 2022-23 and 23,528 the previous year.

Max Healthcare Institute Ltd on Friday said it will fully acquire Starlit Medical Centre Pvt Ltd for an enterprise value of Rs 940 crore thereby giving it the ownership of 550-bedded Sahara Hospital in Lucknow. The company has executed a binding share purchase agreement (SPA) for the acquisition of 100 per cent stake of Starlit Medical Centre Pvt Ltd, which had entered into a business transfer agreement with Sahara India Medical Institute Ltd for purchase of healthcare undertaking consisting of 550-bedded Sahara Hospital, Lucknow, on a slump sale basis, Max Healthcare Institute said in a statement. Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, Assam and Uttar Pradesh together registered over three-fourth of all UAPA cases in India in 2022, while one-fourth of sedition cases were registered in West Bengal alone, according to the latest NCRB data on 'Offences against the State'. Altogether 20 cases of sedition under the Indian Penal Code section 124A were lodged across India in 2022 while 1,005 were registered under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), which functions under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, showed in its annual crime report. Notably, sedition cases have come down since 2020 while those lodged under the UAPA saw a rise in the last three years, according to the data. In 2021, 76 cases of sedition and 814 cases of UAPA were lodged in the country, while in 2020 the figures for the same were logged at 73 and 796, official data from corresponding years showed. According to Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena, Judge Dinesh Kumar Diwakar in a letter to him said that his elder brother Judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar had passed an order to conduct videography survey of Varanasi's Gyanvapi complex in 2022. After the order was passed, Judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar had received a hand-written threat letter in June, following which nine police personnel were deployed for his security. Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (UP RERA) on Friday said it has issued notices to about 130 promoters across the state for violation of rules related to advertisement of registered projects. The regulator also noted non-compliance with its recent orders by a majority of promoters despite being granted time during a review by UP RERA Chairman Sanjay Bhoosreddy, as per an official statement. In recent months, UP RERA has issued directions about the promotion and advertisements of registered and unregistered projects, mentioning the RERA registration number and portal prominently and uploading the coordinates of a designated director of the organisation for correspondence. The Uttar Pradesh government will celebrate January 22, the day of consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, as a festival, state Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh said. The state government will hold recitation of the Ram Charitmanas and Hanuman Chalisa in all prestigious temples and 'muths'. The programme will start from January 14 and continue till the consecration ceremony. For this, programmes will be presented by local artists through the Uttar Pradesh Tourism and Culture Council established in every district, Singh added. The expenditure of this event will be borne by the Tourism and Culture Department, he said. India experienced extreme weather events almost every day in the first nine months of this year which led to nearly 3,000 deaths, according to a report released on Wednesday. Published by independent think tank Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), the report said the climate-vulnerable country had extreme weather on 86 per cent of days from January to September. The CSE said 2,923 people died, almost two million hectares of crops were ruined, 80,000 homes were destroyed and more than 92,000 animals were killed. But these numbers might be even higher because not all the data is collected, it said. Taking up the plea of the ASI seeking three additional weeks to submit the report, District Judge A K Vishvesh asked a senior ASI official from Delhi to explain the need for more time, to which the ASI counsel said that officials in Varanasi have been handling the task and will apprise the court about it. Over 3,000 loudspeakers or sound amplifiers installed at public and religious places in Uttar Pradesh were found to be violating prescribed norms, and were removed on Monday, a senior official said. As part of a month-long campaign against loudspeakers, 61,399 loud speakers were checked from 5 am to 7 am in all the districts on Monday, the official said. The campaign is being carried out in accordance with directives of the state government between November 23 to December 23. In a statement, Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said 3,238 loudspeakers or sound amplifiers operating against the norms or beyond the prescribed decibel limit were removed from public or religious places. The DGP said decibel limit of 7,288 loudspeakers or amplifiers were reduced to bring it at par with the norms.
