Militants Tuesday hurled a grenade at the residence of a National Conference leader in Tral town in south Kashmir's Pulwama district, police said. There was no damage due to the grenade explosion. A police official said the ultras lobbed grenade towards the house of Mohammad Ashraf Bhat in Tral town but it landed some distance away. Security forces have launched searches to nab the attackers, he added.

Afghan official: Officer shoots at fellow policemen, kills 4
An Afghan official says a police officer in western Farah province opened fire at fellow policemen, killing four before he was taken into custody. Mohibullah Mohib, a spokesman for the provincial police chief, says an investigation is underway into the attack, which occurred on Monday night. Mohib says it happened at a checkpoint near the city of Farah, the provincial capital. No group immediately claimed responsibility but the Taliban have been very active in Farah. Mohib says the investigation will show whether there are links to the Taliban. The attack comes as a resurgent Taliban, who now hold sway over nearly half of Afghanistan, stage near-daily assaults on Afghan military and security forces, government and other installations throughout the country, including in Farah.

Day curfew lifted in Kishtwar
Day curfew was lifted from the communally sensitive Kishtwar township of Jammu and Kashmir Tuesday after remaining in force for a week following the killing of a senior RSS leader and his security guard, a senior government official said. However, night curfew along with prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC banning assembly of more than four persons will remain in force in the town and adjoining areas as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order, District Development Commissioner, Kishtwar, Angrez Singh Rana told PTI. Bike-borne miscreants kill 22-yr-old man after robbing him of Rs 60,000
A 22-year-old man was shot dead by two unidentified miscreants who also looted Rs 60,000 from him here in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place on Monday when Deepak (22), along with his father Ram Kumar, was returning home after withdrawing money from a bank, they added. The armed miscreants, who came on a motorcycle, intercepted the victim and his father near Inderghar village under the Thana Bhawan police station limits, Station House Officer (SHO) Sandeep Baltan said, adding that they looted Rs 60,000 from the father-son duo and when Deepak attempted to resist their move, they shot him dead. A case had been registered in connection with the incident, the SHO said, adding that efforts were on to identify the culprits on the basis of the CCTV footage collected from the area.
