The day temperature in Jammu dipped eight notches due cloud cover in the region, even as the Met forecast wet weather for the next four days. The maximum temperature recorded in the city settled at 33.6 degrees Celsius, 4.1 notches below the normal during this part of the season, a spokesman of the meteorological (Met) department said. He said the minimum temperature, however, continued to stay slightly above the normal at 27.1 degrees Celsius against the previous night's 28.8 degrees Celsius. The spokesman said wet weather is likely for the next six days, with widespread rains on Thursday and Friday followed by fairly widespread rains till July 1.

Most parts of Himachal Pradesh witnessed heavy rains as the Monsoon arrived in the hill state in time, the meteorological department said today. The Monsoon has reached the state on time. The usual date of arrival of the Monsoon here is June 25, and a week earlier or later is considered its normal arrival time, the director of the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, Manmohan Singh, said. The state capital received 36.4 mm of rains, followed by 52 mm in Sujanpur Tira and 55 mm in Palampur of Kangra district. Heavy to very heavy rains are likely in Shravasti, Bahraich, Kheri, Pilibhit, Bareilly, Rampur, Shahjahanpur, Moradabad and Bijnor, the Met department said. The southwest monsoon has entered Rajasthan and conditions are favourable for its further advancement, the meteorological department said today. According to a weather report, several areas in the state, both eastern and western, were lashed by rains during the last 24 hours with Jaisalmer recording the highest amount of rainfall at 43.6 mm. Erinpura Road (Pali), Churu, Mount Abu and Kota had recorded 42, 23.3, 9.4 and 8.8 mm of rainfall respectively till today morning, the report added. It said pre-monsoon thunderstorm activities were observed over parts of western Rajasthan. Over 60 people have lost their lives in lightning strike in different districts of West Bengal since May, a senior official of the state disaster management department said today. Dhirendra Roy (72) of Dahala gram panchayat in Khatra block became the latest casualty, when lightning struck him last night, he said. "Since May till June 25, we have reports of 66 people dying because of lightning in different West Bengal districts," the official told PTI. With the MeT office forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in the northern districts of the state, the department has asked its officers posted in those areas to be on alert, he said.
