Severe thunderstorm lash Shimla, adjoining areas

Shimla and adjoining areas were lashed by a severe thunderstorm accompanied by intermittent showers this evening. Rohtang Pass was closed again following fresh snowfall in high altitude tribal areas and other higher reaches. A large number of vehicles were stranded on either side of Rohtang Pass and people on the way to Manali were stranded at Koksar. One ailing person was sent to Manali through Rohtang Tunnel and all other stranded people were safe, SDM Lahaul Amar Negi said. Rescue posts have been set up at Koksar and Mari. Rohtang Pass, Kothi, Mari and Sisu recorded 30 cm, 20 cm, 14 cm and 5 cm of snow till this evening, reports reaching here said. The region had a clear and sunny day in the morning but a thunderstorm accompanied by intermittent showers brought down the temperature. Sunny day in Delhi, strong winds expected

It was a sunny day in the national capital today with the minimum temperature settling at 23 degrees Celsius, a notch above the normal. The relative humidity level during morning hours was registered at 41 per cent, making the weather pleasant. Strong surface winds swept Delhi yesterday and the MeT office has forecast clear skies with strong surface winds through the day today. However, no rainfall was recorded overnight. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 39C. The minimum temperature recorded at various weather stations in he city were - Lodhi Road (22.4C), Ayanagar (23.6C), Palam (24.6C) and Ridge (25.6C), a Met department official said. Yesterday, the maximum and minimum temperatures settled at 38.2C and 23.7C respectively.

Strong winds sweep Delhi, max temp settles at 38.2 Deg C

Hot weather conditions prevailed in the national capital today as strong surface winds swept the city with the maximum temperature settling at 38.2 degrees Celsius, a notch above the normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 23.7 degrees, two notches above the season's average, said a MeT department official. The humidity oscillated between 50 and 16 per cent. The MeT office has forecast clear skies along with strong surface winds during the day for tomorrow. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover at 39 and 24 degrees respectively," the weatherman said. Yesterday, the maximum and minimum temperatures settled at 38.6 and 23.3 degrees respectively.

Strong winds lash mid-hills of Himachal Pradesh

Strong winds lashed mid-hills of Himachal Pradesh today while the weather remained dry in lower and higher hills. The weather department has warned of thunderstorm and squall in mid and lower hills tomorrow. The weather department also predicted rain and thundershowers in lower and mid hills and rains or snow in higher hills for the next three days from tomorrow, and dry weather in the region from April 22 onwards. Bhuntar, Kothi and Kumarsein received light rain during the day. Day temperatures rose marginally and Una in the foothills was the hottest in the state with a maximum temperature of 37.4 degrees Celsius. Nahan, Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded a high of 32.7, 32.5 and 30.0 degrees Celsius, followed by Solan 28.8, Dharamshala 27.8, Palampur 26.5, Shimla 23.8, Kalpa 19.6 and Keylong 14.4 degrees Celsius. Odisha continues to swelter under intense heat

Intense heat conditions prevailed over most parts of Odisha today with the mercury soaring to 43 degrees Celsius in Titlagarh, making it the hottest place in the state. However, marginal drop in temperature was recorded in a few coastal areas following rain and thundershower, which brought some respite to the people. The mercury stood above 40 degrees Celsius in at least nine places in the state. The mercury fell to 38.4 degrees Celsius from 40.6 degrees recorded yesterday in Bhubaneswar, the Meteorological Centre here said. Apart from Titlagarh in west Odisha, Balangir recorded a maximum temperature of 42.8 degrees Celsius, it said in a bulletin. Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi recorded 41.5 degrees Celsius, while the temperature stood at 41.1 degrees Celsius in Hirakud, 40.7 degrees in Angul, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Talcher and 40 degrees Celsius in Malkangiri.

It was sunny in the national capital with the maximum temperature being recorded at 38.6 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average. Yesterday, the city recorded its hottest day of the season, so far, with the maximum settling at 40 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature today settled at 23.3 degrees Celsius, a notch above the normal, said a MeT department official. Humidity levels were between 83 and 34 per cent. The weatherman has predicted partly cloudy morning tomorrow with the possibility of strong surface winds blowing during the day. Cloudy conditions keeping night temp high in Maha

The cloudy conditions over Maharashtra have kept the night temperatures high and would prevail for the next couple of days, a Met official said today. "The weather stations across Maharashtra recorded a significant rise in the minimum temperature, which has kept the nights warmer. The extra moisture from the Arabian sea and the bay of Bengal have led to formation of clouds over state of Maharashtra. The same conditions will prevail for the next two days," Dr A K Srivastav, Head, Climate Monitoring and Analysis group, IMD, Pune, told PTI today. Pune, Nashik, Kolhapur, Ahmednagar, Satara, Raigad, Chandrapur and Aurangabad districts have reported a rise of more than three degree Celsius in the minimum temperature today. Rain in parts of Himachal Pradesh

Moderate rain occurred in some parts of Himachal Pradesh today and the MeT office warned of thunderstorm, accompanied by squall and hailstorm, in mid-hills on April 19 and 20. The forecast of a wet weather in the next few days has kept farmers and fruit growers on tenterhooks. Hailstorm and squall in mid-hills this time are disastrous for standing wheat crop, stone fruit crop and apple crop. Max temperatures drop by 4 to 9 deg C in parts of HP

Maximum temperatures dropped by four to nine degrees Celsius in different parts of Himachal Pradesh as rains and thunderstorm lashed isolated places in the state. Sky remained heavily overcast in state capital Shimla and adjoining areas and intermittent heavy showers lashed the region, the MeT said. The maximum temperatures dropped to 34.3 degree Celsius in Una, 30.0 degrees Celsius in Nahan, 26.6 degrees Celsius in Dharamsala, 26.5 degrees Celsius in Sundernagar and 26.0 degrees Celsius in Solan. IMD predicts normal monsoon; Govt expects boost to farm output

The country will receive "normal" monsoon rainfall this year, the Indian Meteorological Department forecast today, raising hopes for higher farm output and a boost to the rains-dependent rural economy. Nearly 50 per cent of India's cultivable farm area depend on the monsoon, making it lifeline of the country's rural economy and agriculture sector that has been lagging the overall economic growth rate. The monsoon will be 97 per cent of long period average (LPA), which is normal for the season, IMD Director General K G Ramesh told reporters. The error margin in the forecast is plus/minus 5 per cent. He said there was "very less probability" of a deficient monsoon. The four-month monsoon season from June to September provides about 75 per cent of annual rainfall to the country. IMD forecasts normal southwest monsoon rainfall in 2018

IMD will issue the update in early June, 2018 as a part of the second stage forecast. Along with the updated forecast, separate forecasts for the monthly (July and August) rainfall over the country as a whole and seasonal (June-September) rainfall over the four geographical regions of India will also be issued.
