Australia complete perfect 8-0 sweep on the dominant West Indies tour

Australia completed a sweep of the Twenty20 international cricket series with a three-wicket victory over West Indies to finish its Caribbean tour with an 8-0 record. Australia went into the last game on a 7-match winning streak following the 3-0 test series sweep and victories in the first four of the T20 internationals. After winning the toss for the eighth straight time, Australia sent the home team in to bat and dismissed West Indies for 170 two balls short of the allotted 20 overs on Monday night. Shimron Hetmyer's 52 from 31 balls and Sherfane Rutherford's 35 off 17 propped up the innings but the target wasn't big enough to put genuine pressure on the Australian batters. Ben Dharshuis took 3-41 and Nathan Ellis finished with 2-32, while spinner Adam Zampa returned 1-20 in his 100th T20 international after taking a wicket and having a chance dropped off his bowling in the penultimate over. The Australians reached 173-7 with 18 balls to spare, with a 63-run fifth-wicket ...

Green, Inglis star as Australia seal 4-0 T20 series lead vs West Indies

Half-centuries to Cameron Green and Josh Inglis led Australia to a three-wicket win over West Indies and extended its lead to 4-0 in a five-match Twenty20 international series. Australia chased down West Indies score of 205-9 in the final over without too much trouble with Green top scoring with an unbeaten 55, his third fifty of the series, while Inglis set the tone early with a spritely 51. It's the seventh time West Indies have failed to defend a score in excess of 200 in Twenty20 internationals, the most of any ICC member nation. Sherfane Rutherford made 31 off 15 balls to top score for the hosts, who also had handy contributions from the middle order Rovman Powell (28), Romario Shepherd (28) and Jason Holder (26) after being asked again to bat first at Warner Park. Shai Hope, who made a brilliant unbeaten 102 on Friday to become the second male West Indian player after Chris Gayle to score a century in each format could only manage 10 this game before chipping a catch to a

Owen's debut performance propels Australia to T20 win over West Indies

Mitchell Owen marked his international debut with a half-century and a wicket to help Australia to a three-wicket win in the Twenty20 cricket series opener against West Indies. Owen shared an 80-run fifth-wicket stand off 40 deliveries with Cameron Green, who scored 51 off 26 balls, to put Australia on course to reach the victory target of 190 with seven balls to spare on Sunday. After being sent in to bat and making a flying start, West Indies was restricted to 189-8 after losing four wickets for five runs off the last nine balls. Australian fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis returned a career-best 4-36, taking three wickets in four deliveries Jason Holder blocked a hat-trick ball but was out next delivery in the next-to-last over of the West Indies innings. The top four West Indies batters all got starts, with Roston Chase plundering 60 from 32 deliveries before he was caught in the deep off Dwarshuis' bowling to end a 91-run second-wicket partnership with Shai Hope (55) in the 13th ...

Andre Russell to retire from international cricket after 2nd T20 vs AUS

Flamboyant T20 freelancer Andre Russell will draw the curtains on a start-stop 15-year international career for the West Indies after the second T20I against Australia here on July 22. Russell's most significant achievement is being a member of two T20 World Cup winning West Indies teams in 2012 and 2016 respectively. Since 2019, Russell has featured exclusively in the T20 format. He has represented the West Indies in 84 T20Is, 56 ODIs and one solitary Test. The 37-year-old Jamaican, a cornerstone of West Indies' T20 success, had been named in the squad for the five match series against Australia but will play his final two international matches on July 20 and 22 at his beloved home ground -- the Sabina Park. Russell, who was part of the title-winning squads in 2012 and 2016, announced his decision just seven months ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. "Words cannot explain what it meant. To represent the West Indies has been one of the proudest achievements in m

Fallout of 27-10: WI invite Lloyd, Lara to reshape Caribbean cricket future

The Cricket West Indies on Tuesday invited former greats of the game Clive Lloyd, Vivian Richards and Brian Lara to strengthen discussions on how to revive cricket in the Caribbean, following the team's abject surrender in a 0-3 Test series whitewash at home against Australia. Australia won the inconsequential third Test by 176 runs, riding on Mitchell Starc's sensational 6/9 and Scott Boland's hat-trick to dismiss the West Indies for 27 -- the second-lowest total ever in Test cricket. They fell just one run short of the all-time lowest score due to a misfield. Australia needed only 14.3 overs to bowl out the hosts in the first day-night Test at Sabina Park. "To strengthen the discussions, I have extended invitations to three of our greatest batsmen ever: Sir Clive Lloyd, Sir Vivian Richards, and Brian Lara," president of CWI, Kishore Shallow said in a statement. "They will join past greats Dr Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Dr The Most Honourable Desmond Haynes, Ian Bradshaw, who already

Australia struggle at 99-6 in 3rd Test as West Indies pacers dominate

Cameron Green produced a defiant innings as Australia struggled to 99-6 for an overall lead of 181 in the face of hostile fast bowling from the West Indies under lights Sunday on Day 2 of the third cricket test. Green was 42 not out at stumps and with captain Pat Cummins (5) managed to arrest the slide of the Australian second innings in difficult night conditions at Sabina Park. The pace bowlers dominated all three sessions Sunday with 15 wickets fell across both teams. Australia's all-pace attack had earlier given the visitors the upper hand when it dismissed the West Indies for 143 in the late afternoon to take an 82-run first-innings lead. When the lights were turned on, Australia faced a tough contest with the swinging pink ball and especially initimidating bowling from Alzarri Joseph (3-19) and Shamar Joseph (2-26) as it tried to build its advantage. Australia lost Sam Konstas to a five-ball duck in the second over from Shamar Joseph which set in motion the decline of its se
