Shafali in really good touch, hopefully she can continue in WPL: Lanning

Delhi Capitals' skipper Meg Lanning on Tuesday hoped explosive India opener Shafali Varma will carry her recent rich vein of form in domestic cricket into the third season of the Women's Premier League starting on Friday. Shafali, who was dropped from the Indian team for the away tour to Australia in November 2024, made excellent outings for Haryana in domestic matches recently to signal her return to run-making ways. She looks like she's in really good touch and enjoying herself and having fun too, which I think is really important. For me, just watching her play with freedom, express herself, (and) when she does that, that plays a really important role for our team, Lanning said during the pre-tournament press meet of the Capitals. Shafali was the top run-getter in the Senior Women's One Day Trophy, scoring 527 runs at an average of 75.29 while in the Senior Women's One Day Challenger Trophy the right-hander made 414 runs at an average of 82.80. On both the occasions, she made ru

Have learned how to build my innings while being a part of WPL: Shafali

Delhi Capitals opener Shafali Verma on Friday credited the Women's Premier League for helping her learn how to build her innings, adding that the league provides players with opportunities to refine their games. Verma has been a pivotal member of Delhi Capitals, who reached the WPL finals in both the seasons. "The players get to play a good number of matches in WPL. You get some very good opportunities to make small tweaks here and there in your game," Verma said in a media release. "Personally, I have learnt how to build my innings while being a part of WPL." She also credited the WPL for providing players with significant game time and the platform to interact with international cricketers. "The experience of playing with foreign players is a different learning for all of us. One of the things that I like the most is the way they keep themselves calm and composed on and off the field. "That is one learning that I have got while playing with the overseas players," she added. De

UP Warriorz captain Alyssa Healy set to miss Women's Premier League season

Australia and UP Warriorz captain Alyssa Healy has opted out of the upcoming edition of the Women's Premier League due to stress injury to her right foot and was non committal about her future beyond the ODI World Cup in India later this year. Healy has captained UP Warriorz in each of the first two editions of the WPL with the third one set to be held across four venues in Vadodara, Lucknow, Bengaluru and Mumbai from February 14 to March 15. Healy captained Australia in their emphatic women's Ashes win over England but has struggled in the last few months with her fitness, barely making it to the one-off Test after missing the T20Is. She did not keep wickets in the one-off Test which forced Australia to make wholesome changes to their playing combination. "Unfortunately for me, I've got a couple of months with (my) feet up, so I'm pretty bummed by that," Healy said after Australia Womens thrashed England in their one-off Test by an innings and 122 runs.
