Delhi polls: Police checks vehicles at border areas

New Delhi, Feb 08 (ANI): Vehicles were checked by police at Ghazipur check post ahead of Delhi elections. Similar police check posts were also witnessed at Delhi-Gurugram border. Delhi will undergo polling at 8 AM on February 08. The counting of votes will take place on February 11.

Apple fined 25 million Euros for slowing down iPhones in france

New Delhi, Feb 08 (ANI): France's consumer watchdog, Directorate-General for Competition, Consumption and the Suppression of Fraud (DGCCRF), has fined Apple 25 million euros for intentionally slowing down iPhones in the region. Apple is accused of not informing its users that the iOS updates 10.2.1 and 11.2 which were released in 2017 were likely to slow down their devices, the official website of DGCCRF notes. Centered around power management, these updates slowed down older models such as the iPhone 6, SE, and 7, forcing users to change their batteries or upgrade. The anti-fraud agency has also asked Apple to publish a press release on its French website admitting to its false marketing practice and agreement to pay the fine.

Study reveals pregnant women in Louisiana at increased risk for homicide

Mumbai, Feb 08 (ANI): Researchers found that 13 per cent of deaths occurring during or up to one year after pregnancy among Louisiana women in 2016-17 were homicides. Pooja Mehta, M.D., clinical assistant professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine, was also a member of a research team. The results were published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics. The team conducted a retrospective analysis of vital records data provided by the Louisiana Department of Health of all cases of maternal death that year. Of the 119 maternal deaths, homicide accounted for more deaths than any other single cause.

Delhi polls: Road outside Jamia's gate no 07 cleared ahead of voting

New Delhi, Feb 08 (ANI): The road outside gate no. 07 of Jamia Millia Islamia has been cleared ahead of voting for Delhi elections. Protest was staged against CAA, NPR and NRC in the area for over a month. The protest has shifted to gate no. 04. According to the protestors, they have cleared the road so that the voters may not face difficulties while going to the polling booths. One of the protestors said that the protest will resume after the elections. Assembly elections in the national capital on February 08 will start at 7 am in the morning and the counting of votes will take place on February 11.

Sensex dips by 164 points as coronavirus jitters grip D-Street

New Delhi, Feb 07 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices ended in the negative territory on February 07 due to profit-booking by traders amid worries over economic damage from the coronavirus outbreak. The BSE S-P Sensex closed 164 points lower at 41,142 while the Nifty 50 slipped by 52 points at 12,086. Sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were mixed with Nifty realty down by 1.7 per cent and pharma up by 1.3 per cent. Among stocks, Eicher Motors dipped by 3.3 per cent at Rs 19,720 per share. Tata Motors and Mahindra and Mahindra too lost by 3.1 per cent and 1.8 per cent respectively. The other prominent losers were IndusInd Bank, Grasim, Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel and Tata Steel. However, among the prominent gainers were NTPC, Coal India, ONGC, UPL and Zee Entertainment.

Delhi HC stays hike in auto fares: Sanjay Singh blames BJP

New Delhi, Feb 07 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh on February 7 reacted on Delhi High Court stays state government's decision to increase auto-rickshaw fares. He lambasted at BJP by saying it played a dirty game and forced a stay by the court. "Within a week, the demands of the auto rickshaw drivers will be fulfilled," said Singh. AAP got a shock from the Delhi High Court, which stayed the operation of its decision of June last year to increase auto rickshaw fares.

Nashik farmers protest after wholesale onion prices tumble

Delhi polls: Not just Shaheen Bagh, security measures at all 'critical' places, says police

New Delhi, Feb 07 (ANI): Speaking about security measures amid Delhi elections, DCP Elections Cell, Sharat Kumar Sinha, informed that adequate arrangements have been made at "critical" or "vulnerable" places amid Delhi elections. "We have seized 99,210 liter-illicit liquor and 774 kg drugs, and 504 illegal arms and 730 ammunitions; 7458 licensed weapons deposited," later he added on security measures at Shaheen Bagh and said, "Not only Shaheen Bagh but all places which are 'critical' or 'vulnerable', adequate arrangements have been made there."

Police arrests 3 persons in connection with grenade attack in Pratap Park: Srinagar SSP

Srinagar (J-K), 07 Feb (ANI): Srinagar SSP Dr. Haseeb Mughal informed that police have arrested three persons in connection with grenade attack in Pratap Park. "We have arrested 3 persons in connection with the grenade attack in Pratap Park on 2nd February in which 6 civilians and 2 Central Reserve Police Force personnel were injured. Of those arrested, two are from Pulwama and one is from Shopian," said Srinagar SSP, while briefing the mediapersons. Earlier, six people, including two security personnel, sustained injuries in a grenade attack that took place in Srinagar's Pratap Park.

New Delhi, Feb 07 (ANI): In 2012 Delhi gang-rape case, a Delhi's Patiala House Court dismissed a plea which sought issuance of fresh date of execution for Nirbhaya's convicts and said, "it is criminally sinful to execute the convicts when the law permits them to live." Speaking on it, Nirbhaya's mother, Asha Devi said, "Today, the Court had the power and we had time. Nothing was pending, yet death warrant has not been issued. It's injustice to us, I will see till when the court gives time to the accused and government supports them."

Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Feb 07 (ANI): Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport which is dealing with scores of langurs finds a novel solution for it. The staff members of the airport wear 'bear costume' which scares the langurs. According to Airport Director of SVPI Manoj Gangal, they got to know that langurs are scared of bears. Since then the airport has a dedicated staff to scare away birds and animals that can endanger the safety of planes and passengers. The airport employed people to pose as bears and scare away the simians. Langurs can be of great danger while roaming at the landing point when the aircrafts perform landing.
