Etah (Uttar Pradesh), July 29 (ANI): In a bizarre incident, a man bit a snake into pieces after the reptile attacked him in Uttar Pradesh's Etah on Sunday. Rajkumar, who hails from Etah's Asrauli village, was in an inebriated condition when he bit the snake. Doctors said that Rajkumar's condition is serious. While speaking to ANI, Doctor said, "A patient came to me and said that he bit a snake. I misunderstood as the snake bit him. His condition is serious. He has been referred to another hospital." "My son was drunk. A snake entered into our home and bit him. And later he bit the snake and crunched it into pieces. His condition is serious. We are unable to afford his treatment expenses," Babu Ram, father of Raj Kumar told reporters. Rajkumar's family cremated the snake after the incident.
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), July 29 (ANI): Lalji Tandon took oath as Madhya Pradesh Governor in Bhopal today. He took oath at Raj Bhawan in Bhopal. Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court Ravi Shankar Jha administered him the oath of office. Lalji Tandon is replacing Anandiben Patel, who has been appointed as Governor of Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, Tandon was the governor of Bihar.
As the skies opened up at Vangani in Maharashtra on Friday, little did over a thousand passengers on the Mumbai-Kolhapur Mahalaxmi Express know that the experience that was to follow would possibly be etched in their memories for a long time to come. The train was marooned for almost 17 hours, with those inside, including nine pregnant women, fearing that the water level would rise and flow into the rake through the windows before help came in. By the time joint teams of the NDRF, Army, Navy, Air Force and the railways managed to rescue all the 1,050 passengers inside the train around 3pm on Saturday, several of them had just about reached their limits of endurance.
Jaipur (Rajasthan), July 29 (ANI): A fire broke out in an ICU room of JK Lon Hospital in Jaipur due to short circuit in the wee hours of Monday morning. Aligarh (UP), July 29 (ANI): Activists of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) on Sunday sent letters written in blood to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a bid to counter the open letter written by filmmakers and artistes expressing their concerns, over mob lynching in the country. "Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha activists have written 101 letters with their blood to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Some filmmakers wrote a letter to the PM saying Muslims are being assaulted in the country and that mob lynchings have taken place. I want to remind that mob lynching has not started today," said Ashok Pandey, the national spokesperson of the organisation. The letter has been written as a sign of protest against the letter written by more than 40 filmmakers and artistes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A case has been registered and further investigation is underway. While speaking to ANI on the incident, one of the police officials said, "Prima facie, the deceased had an altercation with some people 4 to 5 days ago and he was killed in connection with that."
Balrampur (Chhattisgarh), Jul 29 (ANI): Jagdamba Singh, a differently-abled resident of Balrampur in Chhattisgarh, drives auto to earn livelihood for him and his family. However, his vehicle has become old now, and he wants the government to step forward and support him to get a new three-wheeler since he has taken loans to maintain his auto in work. "I don't earn much. I bought this auto long back and it faces issues. I take loans for its maintenance. A new auto would help me," Singh told ANI. State's Social Welfare Department has been instructed to look into the matter of the differently-abled man. "We have given directions to Social Welfare Department; we will help him to earn better livelihood in whatever way possible for us," said Sanjeev Kumar Jha, District Collector, Balrampur.
Madurai (Tamil Nadu), Jul 29 (ANI): 15-year-old Jerlin Anika from Tamil Nadu's Madurai has won the gold medal at the 2nd World Deaf Youth Badminton Championship in Taipei, Taiwan. Anika won a total of four medals including two silvers and a bronze. Anika's mother Leela said she cried tears of joy when she saw India's flag being unfurled when her daughter won the gold. She, however, also urged the government to support Anika.
New Delhi, Jul 29 (ANI): Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Sunday said the continuous delay in the appointment of a new party president is hurting the grand old party, adding that an interim president should be appointed immediately to take decisions at the highest level in order to avoid future political disasters like Karnataka and Goa. "To my mind, the delay is hurting us. It gives an impression of drift and in decision. Some very well known names have expressed the same frustration to me. They have chosen not to go public," Tharoor said. "1st thing is appoint an interim president or authorise someone to take decisions. So if somebody like Goa opposition leader leaves with most of the party, someone should be there to stop, persuade, and argue; to do something rather than it just happening." Amethi (Uttar Pradesh), Jul 29 (ANI): 64-year-old Amanullah Khan, a retired Army Captain, was beaten to death by robbers at his newly-made house in Kamrauli area of Uttar Pradesh's Amethi where the unidentified assailants had come to steal construction material. "Deceased and his wife were sleeping in verandah of their newly-constructed house when some thieves came to steal road construction material of a contractor kept in a vacant area outside the house. He raised an alarm, thieves thrashed him to death. Some people have been held," said Rajesh Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Amethi.
New Delhi, Jul 29 (ANI): A bigger waistline and high body mass index (BMI) in the 60s may be linked to the signs of brain aging by at least a decade, says a study. "People with bigger waists and higher BMI were more likely to have thinning in the cortex area of the brain, which implies that obesity is associated with the reduced gray matter of the brain," said study author Tatjana Rundek. The study has been published in the journal 'Neurology.' The study involved 1,289 people with an average age of 64. Participants' BMI and waist circumference were measured at the beginning of the study. An average of six years later, participants had MRI brain scans to measure the thickness of the cortex area of the brain, overall brain volume, and other factors. A total of 346 of the participants had a BMI of less than 25, which is considered normal weight; 571 people had a BMI of 25 to 30, which is considered overweight; and 372 people had a BMI of 30 or higher, which is considered obese. Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Jul 29 (ANI): Congress MLA from Rampur Khas, Aradhna Mishra, demanded an investigation into the "suspicious" accident in which Unnao rape victim got seriously injured and two other got killed. "Unnnao rape victim met with an accident today under suspicious circumstances, two members of her family have died in the accident. Congress party demands an investigation," Mishra told reporters in Lucknow. The victim had accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar of raping her last year following which the leader was arrested.

Mumbai, Jul 29 (ANI): A fire broke out at a shop in Vasai area of Maharashtra which later spread to nearby facilities in Tamtalao. Three fire tenders arrived at the spot to douse the flames. Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Jul 29 (ANI): The Unnao rape victim, who today got seriously injured in an accident while en route Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, has been put on life support system, informed Lucknow Zone's Additional Director General (ADG) Rajiv Krishnan. "Doctors have told me that they (victim and her lawyer) have been put on life support system. Some of their bones have fractured. One of them has head injury," Krishnan told reporters outside King George's Medical University (KGMU) Trauma Centre in Lucknow where the victim is being treated. The victim last year had accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar of raping her in April 2017. Sengar was later arrested by CBI which is investigating the case.
