2,700 Assam villages hit by flood

Guwahati (Assam), July 26 (ANI): Over 2,700 villages in 18 districts of Assam have been adversely affected due to floods caused by the rise in water levels in various rives following heavy rainfall. A large scale flood relief operation by the Army troops is underway in flood-hit areas of lower Assam since June 11 after the torrential rain hit the region. The intensified downpour triggered deluge in all districts of the region, disrupting the normal life. A total of 488 civilians were evacuated along with relief to 450 civilians in the past week. On July 18, the Forest Department in a statement had said that over 50 animals, including five rhinos, died in Kaziranga National Park in Assam floods.

Water enters police station, hospital due to incessant rains in Rajasthan's Tonk

Tonk (Rajasthan), July 26 (ANI): Heavy showers lashed many parts of Rajasthan bringing a sigh of relief for the state. Rajasthan was reeling under intense heat while other parts of the state which were facing a drought-like situation are likely to get showers in the coming days. The incessant rains affected train services and disrupted road traffic. Heavy rainfall caused water logging in the police station and government hospital in Rajasthan's Tonk. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has warned of cloudy sky with thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall in many parts of the state including Jaipur in the next 24 hours.

Jaipur Hospital allegedly asks for patients' religion before admission

Jaipur (Rajasthan), July 26 (ANI): Patients registering for treatment at SMS Medical College and several hospitals attached to it in Jaipur are allegedly being asked to state their caste and religion to avail treatment and other services at the hospital. While speaking to ANI on this matter in Rajasthan's Jaipur today, Medical Superintendent of Sawai Mansingh (SMS) Hospital Dr DS Meena said, "This information is essential for clinical studies related to specific diseases. This helps in planning at every level for research and treatment as well."

Intellectuals have 'selective memory': Sonal Mansingh on celebrities' 'intolerance' letter to PM Modi

New Delhi, July 26 (ANI): Bollywood artists including Kangana Ranaut, Vivek Agnihotri and Madhur Bhandarkar have written counter letter after group of celebrities wrote letter to PM Modi over 'rising' incidents of mob violence incidents. Sonal Mansingh is also among signatories who wrote counter 'intolerance' letter. While speaking to ANI on this matter, classical dancer and nominated Member of Parliament (MP) in Rajya Sabha, Sonal Mansingh said, "The problem of intellectuals is that they have very 'selective memory'. We are short-sighted people are they are quite intelligent. Such incidents are not happening for the first time. Those intellectuals should stop writing such things and what they are portraying is not an honest picture." "The kind of image they are trying to showcase is not acceptable," Mansingh added. JP Nadda hits back at Omar Abdullah on his remark over JandK elections

New Delhi, July 26 (ANI): Hours after National Conference leader Omar Abdullah made a remark on elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Bharatiya Janata Party's working president JP Nadda said he (Omar Abdullah) is doing this only for politics. "Stance of these parties is more concerned with their politics rather than country, it changes from time to time. It's same party that said they will boycott Panchayat elections and then took part," JP Nadda said in a press conference. While addressing a public gathering in Srinagar on Thursday, former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah said, "There is a danger in boycotting polls. If there is a boycott, then like what happened in parliamentary polls will also happen in assembly polls too, there will be a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Tral from where Burhan Wani and Zakir Musa belonged. They (BJP) have their eyes on some constituencies here."

BJP promises 1.95 crore houses with clean drinking water facility by 2022

BS Yediyurappa takes oath as Karnataka CM

Bengaluru, July 26 (ANI): BS Yediyurappa took oath as Chief Minister of Karnataka today. He reached Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru before taking his oath as CM of the state. BS Yediyurappa also offered prayers at Kadu Malleshwara temple in Bengaluru before taking oath. Karnataka BJP General Secretary Shobha Karandlaje, Jagadish Shettar and several other leaders were also present while he took oath. RPF gets segways at Visakhapatnam railway station

Self-balancing transporter is expected to help the force in controlling the crowd efficiently. RPF personnel can cruise up to the speed of 8-10 km/hr on latest segways. Fire breaks out in a building in Ahmedabad
