Massive rural sanitation drive by NMCG helps clean Ganga

Haridwar, Uttarakhand (ANI) July 18, 2019: Few miles from Haridwar city, Ajitpur is one among 4,465 villages located on the Ganga river basin which have been identified by the National Mission for Clean Ganga as part of its Ganga Rejuvenation plan. There are millions of households located in these villages where a massive drive for rural sanitation has been launched with an aim to develop them as model villages so that the waste does not flow into the holy river. Namami Gange has joined hands with the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti to make these villages Open Defecation Free (ODF) by constructing over 11 lakh independent toilets. In the process, the `households without toilets' were identified by panchayats and subsequently a cash subsidy for construction was provided as per the approved government scheme.

Govt to continue vigorous efforts to ensure Jadhav's safety, return: S Jaishankar

New Delhi, July 18 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday briefed Rajya Sabha on International Court of Justice verdict in Kulbhushan Jadhav case. He assured that the government will vigorously continue its efforts to ensure Jadhav's safety and well being, as well as his early return to India. While speaking in Rajya Sabha, S Jaishankar said, "The International Court of Justice (ICJ) by a vote of 15-1 upheld India's claim that Pakistan is in violation of Vienna Convention on several counts." The house also appreciated the legal team of the case for the big win in International court of Justice.

LMRC organises its first-ever art exhibition at Hazratganj metro station

Lucknow (UP), July 18 (ANI): Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) has organised its first-ever art exhibition at Hazratganj metro station. The exhibition started on July 17 and will conclude on July 25. The aim of the exhibition is to promote art, literature and cultural heritage of Lucknow. It exhibited breath-taking artworks that included paintings, sculptures and miniature art pieces. While speaking to ANI, LMRC MD Kumar Keshav said, "I want Lucknow metro to not just be a metro but our lifeline, one we feel daily. We'd organised book exhibition earlier and this is the next step."

Municipal body conducts massive anti-encroachment drive in Tripura's Agartala

Agartala (Tripura), July 18 (ANI): Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) conducted a massive anti-encroachment drive on Wednesday to make the city clean and free for uninterrupted movement of traffic and people. Municipal Commissioner Shailesh Kumar Yadav said, "All roads and footpaths are being made free from encroachment done by shopkeepers who have made temporary or permanent structures on them, thus interrupting the movement of people." He also added that the drive is not targeting street vendors as they are protected under the Tripura Street Vendors Act. The municipal corporation is also getting the required support from law enforcement agencies in this drive.

Harsh Vardhan launches public awareness campaign to control of vector-borne diseases in Delhi

New Delhi, July 18 (ANI): Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Harsh Vardhan emphasised on the need of community efforts in the right direction to help in preventing Vector-Borne Diseases (VBDs) such as Malaria, Dengue and Chikungunya. On Wednesday, Vardhan launched the 'Jagrukta Abhiyaan', a three-day public awareness campaign on prevention and control of VBDs here. A total of 286 ward-wise teams have been constituted with 20-25 members per team including officers of the Municipal Corporation along with the officers from Central Government and government of NCTD (National Capital Territory of Delhi).

Judgement positive, Pakistan will realise their mistake and will return Jadhav: VK Singh

New Delhi, July 18 (ANI): While speaking to ANI on Thursday, Union Minister VK Singh on Kulbhushan Jadhav's verdict said, "The judgement is positive. Hopefully, Pakistan will realise their mistake and will take action to ensure that justice is prevailed and will return India." Earlier, the ICJ ruled in favour of India and put a stay order on Jadhav's death sentence handed out by a Pakistani court. The ICJ also asked Pakistan to review its conviction and sentencing of Jadhav, who is facing execution on charges of alleged spying.

Yeddyurappa, Siddaramaiah and Kumaraswamy arrives at Vidhana Soudha ahead of floor test

Bengaluru, July 18 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president BS Yeddyurappa and BJP MLAs arrived at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on Thursday. The Karnataka government will be facing floor test today. Congress leader Siddaramaiah also arrived at Vidhana Soudha ahead of floor test. While speaking to mediapersons, Yeddyurappa said, "We are 101 per cent confident. They are less than 100, we are 105. There is no doubt that their motion will be defeated." Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy arrived at Vidhana Soudha as his government will be facing floor test there. The 13-month-old Congress-JDS government had slumped into crisis after these MLAs resigned from the membership of the Assembly earlier this Month. The state Assembly has 225 members, including one nominated MLA. The halfway mark in the 225-member Assembly is 113.

Traffic police gets body-worn cameras in TN's Coimbatore

Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), July 18 (ANI): In an attempt to further curb traffic violations and have better surveillance on roads, Coimbatore traffic police personnel have been provided with ultra-modern body-worn cameras. The department has provided 70 body-worn cameras to traffic personnel. The cameras designed to be worn by traffic police personnel captures traffic violations and incidents of crime and transmit the visuals to the control room immediately.

While speaking to ANI, Kaur said, "This is a big win for India. I congratulate Prime Minister Modi-led government for reaching the ICJ and putting forth facts effectively. They also managed to get a stay on his punishment. The most important thing is that Jadhav will also get a lawyer to fight his case now." UP DGP denies communal situation in state, urges media to rebut such news

He said, "In the recent times, attempts have been made to initiate a communal situation. A person claimed in Aligarh that his cap was removed and he was tortured in a train, we investigated, he used to study at a Madrasa in Bareilly and we found that nothing like that happened." He further added, "Similar incidents took place in Kanpur, and recently in Unnao where person registered FIR that he was asked to chant "Jai Sri Ram" while facts were found to be different."

Google officially closes controversial Dragonfly project

New Delhi, Jul 17 (ANI): Google's controversial Dragonfly project, aimed at launching a search engine customised for China, has been officially shut down. Google's VP of Public Policy Karan Bhatia told the US Senate that the much-criticised project has been terminated. However, Bhatia highlighted that it is not a new development and the first public mention was back in March, BuzzFeed reported. He further stressed that Google has no plans to launch a censored search in China and that no work is being undertaken on such a project.

3 under-trial prisoners flee from police custody en route to jail
