PM Modi while addressing the Indian community at UNESCO HQ in Paris said, "In new India, the way in which action is being taken against corruption, nepotism, loot of people's money, terrorism, this has never happened before. Within 75 days of the new Government coming to power, we took many strong decisions." Prime Minister Modi is on his first leg of a three-nation tour to France, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain.

4 dead, 27 injured after wall collapses at Loknath Temple in Kolkata

North 24 Parganas (West Bengal), Aug 23 (ANI): Atleast four people died while twenty seven others sustained injuries after a portion of a wall of Loknath Temple collapsed on August 23. The incident took place in Kachua, North 24 Parganas in Kolkata, where people gathered to celebrate Janmashtami. The injured people have been shifted at a local hospital in the district. Furthers details are awaited.

Manmohan Singh takes oath as Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan

New Delhi, Aug 23 (ANI): Former prime minister and Congress leader Dr Manmohan Singh took oath as Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan on August 23 in Delhi. Top Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma were among those, who were present during the oath taking ceremony in the chairman's chamber. The oath was administered by Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu. Singh returned to the Rajya Sabha after a brief gap since his retirement from the Upper House on June 14 this year.

Rajnath Singh pays tribute to jawans at War Memorial in Lucknow

Several leaders pay tribute to former LS speaker Balram Jakhar on his birth anniversary

New Delhi, Aug 23 (ANI): Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla paid floral tribute to former Lok Sabha speaker Balram Jakhar on August 23 in Parliament. Today is the birth anniversary of Jakhar. Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Sunil Kumar Jakhar also paid tribute to him. Indira Gandhi-led Congress party nominated Balram Jakhar, a debutante Lok Sabha MP, the Speaker in 1980. Jakhar remained the Speaker for two terms-from 1980 to 1984 and again from 1984 to 1989. He was a two-term Punjab Assembly member before he was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1980.

Officials set up health camp for Baiga tribals in Chhattisgarh's Kawardha

Kawardha (Chhattisgarh), Aug 23 (ANI): Health Department officials set up health camp for Baiga tribals living on mountains situated in jungle of Chhattisgarh's Kawardha district. 33 patients have been treated at the camp till now. While speaking to ANI, Collector of Kawardha District, Awanish Kumar Sharan said, "Village is based in such a terrain that villagers have no access to health services, so health camp was set up there by officials of Health Department to lend medical aid to villagers. US Envoy at UN meeting slams Pakistan, China for discriminating against religious freedom

Hyderabad's 12-year-old prodigy develops smart dustbin after getting inspiration from 'Swachh Bharat Mission'

Hyderabad (Telangana), Aug 23 (ANI): A 12-year-old prodigy has developed a smart dustbin after getting inspired by the 'Swachh Bharat Mission' program in Hyderabad. While the 12-year-old Mohd Hasan himself is an eighth standard student, he takes classes for Civil, Mechanical and Electronic engineering students of Masters and Bachelor levels. While speaking to ANI, Mohd Hasan said, "One day I was watching the 'Swachh Bharat' campaign program and inspired by that I made a Smart Dustbin. Whenever the dustbin gets filled, the display outside will show and when the dustbin gets totally filled up then it will send a message to the Municipal Corporation to come and pick up the dustbin," Speaking more about the dustbin, Hasan added, "This dustbin has a Wi-Fi module, ultrasonic sensors, servo motor, an LCD, sensor and buzzer."
