Woman alleges husband gave her triple talaq for failing to pay dowry in UP's Prayagraj

Prayagraj (UP), Aug 13 (ANI): A newly married woman accused her husband, residing in Saudi Arabia, of giving her 'triple talaq' (divorce) over the phone for failing to pay dowry, police said on August 12. "My in-laws used to demand a two-wheeler and Rs 1 lakh in cash from me. After I refused to give them the dowry, my husband gave triple talaq to me over the phone," said the woman, who got married in April earlier this year. The police have registered an FIR against the accused and his family. "He abused her over the phone and divorced her. Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019 has been invoked," the Superintendent of Police (Crime) told media persons. The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage), Bill, 2019, which criminalises instant 'triple talaq' among Muslims and attracts a jail term of three years for the husband came into force on August 1.

Karnataka floods: Request Centre to release Rs 10,000 crore, says BS Yediyurappa

Shivamogga (Karnataka), Aug 13 (ANI): With no signs of respite from flood, Karnataka continued to remain on edge as several people have died in the state. While speaking to ANI on flood situation in Karnataka's Shivamogga on August 13, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said, "The situation is very worst. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also conducted inspection. By now, there is loss of over 50,000 crore in the state. On August 16, I am going to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding this matter." "Today, I will meet local MLAs in Shivamogga and will discuss the situation. I request Government of India to release Rs 10,000 crore immediately," Yediyurappa added.

Kerala floods: CM Pinarayi Vijayan conducts aerial survey of affected areas

Onboard, Aug 13 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan conducted aerial survey of the flood affected areas in the state on August 13. Around, 88 people have died in 14 districts of Kerala since August 08 due to floods. At least, 40 people are reported missing in the state. Earlier, flight operations were resumed at Cochin International Airport on August 11. Authorities have been put on high alert. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Kannur, Kasaragod and Wayanad in view of heavy rain forecast.

Man slits wife's throat in Hyderabad, case registered

Hyderabad, Aug 13 (ANI): The Telangana Police registered a case in Hyderabad against a man who had allegedly murdered his wife by slitting her throat on August 12. The deceased was identified as Sameera and she was the second wife of the accused named Basheer. While speaking to media, Golconda Police officials said, "After receiving an input from the parents of the deceased, we reached the spot and found her with a slit throat. A case under section 302 (murder) has been registered against the accused." A team has been formed to nab the accused. Body of accused has been shifted to Osmania General Hospital for autopsy.

French envoy confers Indian chef with Chevalier de I'Ordre

New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI): French Ambassador to India Alexandre Ziegler conferred Indian chef Priyam Chatterjee with the distinction of Chevalier de I'Ordre du Merite Agricole, also known as the Order of Agricultural Merit on August 12. Chatterjee, 30, was the first Indian chef to be conferred this honour, which comes in recognition of his contribution to reinventing the gastronomic scene here. Having trained under eminent French chefs, the Kolkata-based chef is known to honour French cuisine by revisiting the traditional dishes of his native place. Chatterjee's masterful plating, his eccentric cooking style and his creative dishes draw upon his Bengali roots, the French influence in his life and his love for music and art. Chatterjee began his training under Chef Jean-Claude Fugier at Park Hyatt in Hyderabad, before moving on to Fauchon in Oman. He has also cooked with French Chef Ernest Darren Alford, Michelin-starred chefs, Spanish Koldo Royo, and Italian Matteo Grandi.

7 die in truck accident in UP's Badaun

Badaun (UP), Aug 13 (ANI): Seven persons, including two children, died while five other people sustained grave injuries after truck carrying wheat sacks overturned late night on August 12 in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun. According to the officials, the truck overturned after it applied sudden brakes on the road. Bomb scare at Delhi Airport's Terminal 2, police carry out search operation

New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI): The Delhi Police received a hoax bomb threat call for Terminal-2 of Airport, which affected flight operations between 8.50 pm and 10 pm. Soon after receiving the information, the departure area was evacuated and all passengers were moved to gate no-4 at the departure level, while arriving passengers were on hold inside planes. After detailed search operation for about an hour by the BDS and the CISF, it was found to be a hoax. Normalcy returned at the airport after thorough check later.

Higher aspirin consumption in breast cancer patients increases mortality rate: Study

New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI): A recent study has found that women with breast cancer who use aspirin have higher mortality risk following cancer. The study was published in the journal 'Cancer'.According to the researchers at the University of North Carolina, the reason for this effect could be explained by DNA methylation of genes in breast cancer tumours or peripheral blood. This study is the first to examine the effect of DNA methylation in breast tumour tissues and cells circulating in the patients' surrounding blood on the association between aspirin use and mortality in women with breast cancer. The team of researchers analysed data from 1,266 women with breast cancer who were followed for subsequent mortality.
