New Delhi, Aug 10 (ANI): Amid the growing voices within Congress to appoint a non-Gandhi and a democratically elected party president, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi who took part in the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on August 10, said that she and her son Rahul Gandhi won't be part of consultations to decide on next party chief. "Now consultation (to decide next party chief) is going on and naturally me and Rahul ji cannot be a part of it," the veteran Congress leader told reporters in Delhi after leaving the CWC meeting.
Yamuna Nagar (Haryana), Aug 10 (ANI): A youth pushed his expensive luxury BMW car in a river in Haryana's YamunaNagar on August 09. He pushed BMW car in a river after his father denied to buy him a Jaguar car. While speaking to ANI on the subject, police official said, "His family informed that he is mentally unwell. He was demanding a Jaguar car as the BMW car was small for him. Investigation will be done." Police have registered a case in the matter.
Srinagar, Aug 10 (ANI): In Jammu and Kashmir, situation continues to be peaceful on the sixth consecutive day. People offered Friday prayers amid restrictions in Srinagar's Dalgate area on August 09. Surat (Gujarat), Aug 10 (ANI): A seven-day 'Bhagwat Katha' was organised in Gujarat's Surat on August 09. The 'Bhagwat Katha' took place at Lajpor Central Jail. 'Katha' was conducted to motivate prisoners of the jail towards the path of goodness. Around 2,600 prisoners listened 'Bhagwat Katha'. According to prisoners, 'Katha' has increased their knowledge and will help them to improve their wellbeing.
Navagam (Gujarat), Aug 10 (ANI): Gates of the Sardar Sarovar dam were opened for the first time after installation in Gujarat's Navagam. In order to maintain the permitted water level of 131-meter gates were opened on August 09. The Gujarat government opened the gates of Sardar Sarovar Dam for the first time after its installation as the water levels reached an all-time high of 131 metres. Gujarat has been witnessing incessant rainfall during this season which led to flood-like situation in several districts.
Nadiad (Gujarat), Aug 10 (ANI): A three-storey apartment building in Gujarat's Nadiad collapsed on late night of Friday, 8 August. Several people are feared trapped inside the collapsed building. Rescue operations are underway. More details are awaited.
Srinagar (J and K), Aug 10 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on situation of Jammu and Kashmir amid section 144 said that it's generally peaceful and there are no incidents of violence. "I think by seeing how Friday's namaz was offered, it was very peaceful, people may argue, but PM Modi's speech has had cooling effect in the state," said Governor Malik while talking to ANI.
Imphal (Mahima), Aug 09 (ANI): Manipur Government appointed 9-year-old as the state's Green Ambassador. A video went viral after the little girl, Valentina Elangbam cried over felling of trees in the area. Valentina studies in 5th standard. She had planted the saplings of two Gulmohar trees by the side of a river when she was in class 1. However, recently the two trees, along with other vegetation, were axed for a project to widen a road beside the river. A videographer filmed her crying over the trees. The genuine love of the girl for the trees in the video caught the attention of many environment conservation groups including the Chief Minister of Manipur.
Mumbai (Maharashtra), Aug 10 (ANI): Ajoy Mehta, Chief Secretary of Maharashtra informed that government is carefully watching and monitoring the flood situation in the state. While speaking to ANI, Maharashtra's Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta, said, "As flood water recedes, roads in Sangli and Kolhapur will be repaired immediately. Nearly 40,000 trucks are stuck on National Highway-4. Approximately, 1 lakh hectares of agricultural land affected due to flood, compensation to be given." He added, "Govt is carefully watching and monitoring outbreak of any disease; situation is under control. For water-borne diseases, we've asked for 1 crore Chlorine tablets which are being distributed to the people. As flood waters recede, tanker water to be supplied for drinking."
Sangli (Maharashtra), Aug 10 (ANI): Around 6,000 people have been rescued and more than 15,000 have been evacuated from flood-affected area in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Northern Kerala and Tamil Nadu till Friday. The Army has 123 rescues teams have been deployed in 16 districts across the four affected states for relief and rescue operations. Indian Naval diving teams deployed in Karnataka's Kadra evacuated nearly 450 personnel to safety whilst other team operating from Kaiga evacuated 300 personnel to safety bringing a total number of rescued personnel in the area alone to 2,219.
Lhasa (Tibet), Aug 10 (ANI): Highlighting the role of Tibet in Indo-China friendship, Sun Xiaobo, deputy director general of foreign affairs office in Tibet autonomous region, said the roof of the world can play an important role in boosting bilateral relations. "China's relationship with India is on priority of Chinese diplomacy and Tibet has a very long history of exchanges with India in terms of culture and religion. Tibet can play an important role in promoting relations between China and India," Xiaobo told ANI.
Lucknow (UP), Aug 09 (ANI): In a move to spread greenery in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to plant 22 crore plant saplings on the occasion of Kranti Diwas. The state government will also keep an eye on the plant saplings with their 'geotagging' over their growth. The decision was taken by the state government during cabinet meeting, which was chaired by state Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Hailing the decision, state Forest Minister Dara Singh Chauhan said that this initiative by UP CM has taken a mass movement.

Tohana (Haryana), Aug 09 (ANI): A woman gave birth to a baby at hospital's toilet in Haryana's Tohana. Family members of the woman blamed hospital authorities for sheer negligence. On the other hand, hospital authorities debunked the allegation by woman's family members. According to the duty incharge, "A patient arrived at the hospital that has her third baby, the baby was dead inside her womb. The sugar level of the mother was also high, high sugar level of the mother is probably a reason baby's death. When the patient went to washroom, she gave birth to the baby there. The child was already dead and mother is out of danger."
New Delhi, Aug 09 (ANI): Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar, launched the Indian website for the 14th session of Conference of Parties (COP14), which will be held in New Delhi from 2-13 September. More than 100 countries will participate in the UN-sanctioned COP14 in the national capital to take steps to combat desertification - the process by which fertile land becomes desert. Post the launch of the website, Javadekar told ANI that given the rising world population, the requirement of cultivated land is more than ever but human actions, several land parcels are becoming unproductive, and COP14 is a platform to combat desertification.

It was alleged that the public welfare schemes that benefit the tribal community here are not being implemented properly. Therefore, helpless tribal communities are forced to mortgage their children for the sake of money.
