Varanasi (UP), Aug 13 (ANI): Congress General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East), Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met the families of the victims in UP's Sonbhadra who were killed in firing over a land dispute on July 17. The Sonbhadra firing took place where the village head went to take possession of his land purchased two years ago. However, he met with opposition from the villagers, which triggered the firing allegedly by his aides leading to 10 deaths.

Kolhapur/Rajapur (Maharashtra), Aug 13 (ANI): The flood situation in several districts of Maharashtra remained critical. Personnel of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) saved the life of a goat and rescued it from the flood water in Maharashtra's Kolhapur. NDRF teams are also carrying fodder with them for affected animals. Meanwhile, relief materials were distributed in flood affected areas by the rescue team in Maharashtra's Rajapur on August 12. Death toll due to flood in all five districts of Pune division including Sangli, Kolhapur, Satara, Pune and Solapur rose to 43. Three people are still missing and 4,74,226 people have been evacuated from 584 villages. 596 temporary shelter camps have been set up for evacuated people. As per the information given by Defence PRO, "Deinduction of some of the teams has started. Panipat (Haryana), Aug 13 (ANI): Robbers broke into the strong room of Punjab and Sind Bank in Haryana's Panipat. They robbed the jewellery worth crores and damaged 6 lockers. Robbers entered the strong room by cutting the roof slab. Police officials reached at the site and a case has been registered.
Belgavi (Karnataka), Aug 13 (ANI): Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Training Command Air Marshal SK Ghotia informed about the difficulties that the pilots face while rescuing people from flood affected areas. While speaking to ANI, Air Marshal SK Ghotia said, "We do face difficulties but our pilots are efficient and are very well-trained. For instance, an NDRF personnel was stuck in a tree after the boat he was in capsized, we then launched a helicopter to help that single person and saved him."
New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI): Army Chief General Bipin Rawat informed that if the adversary wishes to active the LoC, then it is his choice, Army is always prepared. While speaking to ANI, General Bipin Rawat said, "If the adversary wants to activate the LoC, that's his choice. Everybody does precautionary deployment; we should not get too concerned about it. As far as the Army and other services are concerned, we have to be always prepared." He added, "The bonhomie we had with people in the 70s-80s, we want the same again. We were deployed there, and we used to meet without guns, and if everything goes well, we will again meet without guns."

Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu), Aug 13 (ANI): The Sri Lankan Navy apprehended seven Indian fishermen in Tamil Nadu's Rameswaram on August 13. They were apprehended near Delft Island and further taken to Kangesanthurai naval camp. The Sri Lankan Navy also seized one country made boat which was allegedly used for poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters. Straying of Indian and Sri Lankan fishermen into each other's waters is a recurrent problem as territories on the sea are not clearly demarcated. While speaking to ANI, State Secretary of Tamil Nadu Fisher Work Federation, CR Senthilvel said, "Today, seven of Indian fishermen who were undertaking fishing activity near Delft Island have been detained by the Sri Lankan Navy. They are being interrogated but we really don't know that why our innocent fishermen are being detained every often. Our fishermen are detained and this trend continued unabated."
Wayanad (Kerala), Aug 13 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan held meeting with the state ministers over flood situation in Kerala's Wayanad on August 13. Principal Secretary and other district officials were also present in the meeting. The flood situation in Kerala has worsened, with lakhs of people displaced and humans and animals have died. Around, 88 people have died in 14 districts of Kerala since August 08 due to floods. At least, 40 people are also reported missing in the state.

Prayagraj (UP), Aug 13 (ANI): A newly married woman accused her husband, residing in Saudi Arabia, of giving her 'triple talaq' (divorce) over the phone for failing to pay dowry, police said on August 12. "My in-laws used to demand a two-wheeler and Rs 1 lakh in cash from me. After I refused to give them the dowry, my husband gave triple talaq to me over the phone," said the woman, who got married in April earlier this year. The police have registered an FIR against the accused and his family. "He abused her over the phone and divorced her. Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019 has been invoked," the Superintendent of Police (Crime) told media persons. The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage), Bill, 2019, which criminalises instant 'triple talaq' among Muslims and attracts a jail term of three years for the husband came into force on August 1.
Shivamogga (Karnataka), Aug 13 (ANI): With no signs of respite from flood, Karnataka continued to remain on edge as several people have died in the state. While speaking to ANI on flood situation in Karnataka's Shivamogga on August 13, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said, "The situation is very worst. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also conducted inspection. By now, there is loss of over 50,000 crore in the state. On August 16, I am going to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding this matter." "Today, I will meet local MLAs in Shivamogga and will discuss the situation. I request Government of India to release Rs 10,000 crore immediately," Yediyurappa added.

Hyderabad, Aug 13 (ANI): The Telangana Police registered a case in Hyderabad against a man who had allegedly murdered his wife by slitting her throat on August 12. The deceased was identified as Sameera and she was the second wife of the accused named Basheer. While speaking to media, Golconda Police officials said, "After receiving an input from the parents of the deceased, we reached the spot and found her with a slit throat. A case under section 302 (murder) has been registered against the accused." A team has been formed to nab the accused. Body of accused has been shifted to Osmania General Hospital for autopsy.

Gandhi Nagar (New Delhi), Aug 13 (ANI): A massive fire broke out at Gandhi Nagar market area in New Delhi on August 13. At least 22 fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the flames. No causalities have been reported so far. Further investigation is underway. More details are awaited.

Keonjhar (Odisha), Aug 13 (ANI): A man, Sudya Mahakud started staying atop a tree on a temporary structure after his house was damaged by wild elephants in Odisha's Keonjhar district. He is the resident of Kusumita village. The Forest Department started tracking for the movement of elephants. Sadar Range officer of Forest Department, Keonjhar said, "We're trying our best to compensate him, paperwork being done. We also talked to him and made him understand. He has now returned to the village." He further said, "A squad has been formed by forest dept to track the movement of elephants."
