If you've had enough of bombing around the country in your car and merely want to combine a little luxury with a dash of history, there is no better place than the Neemrana Fort Palace.

A 15th century fort that has been immaculately restored by the Neemrana group, it is only a short drive from Delhi and makes for the ideal weekend getaway. The fort is a huge complex of corridors, ramparts, verandahs and the like and you can spend hours wandering around.

Nearby lies a spectacular 17th century baoli or stepwell, which is well worth a look. The best time to come here is in winter, when you can take walks in the nearby mustard fields.

Neemrana (Ph: 011"�24358962, Rs 1,100 onwards) is both your destination and place of stay. It is 122 km from Delhi down NH8 and offers luxurious rooms, fabulous bathrooms (yes, they're famous for their loos!) and gourmet cuisine.
