Aksh Optifibre to invest Rs 150 cr for network expansion

Internet Protocol television (IPTV) provider Aksh Optifibre today said it plans to invest Rs 150 crore over the next two years to strengthen its network in the country.

"We will invest Rs 150 crore in the next two years for strenghtning our IPTV network, start new services and appoint channel partners," Aksh Optifibre MD K S Choudhari said.

Besides, the company is looking at having one lakh subscribers for its IPTV services by the end of this year.

At present, it has a subscriber base of 30,000, across 22 cities in the country.

IPTV is a system through which digital television service is delivered using the Internet, instead of being delivered through traditional satellite signal and cable television formats.

Among the new services, the company plans to offer triple play features which includes IPTV services along with voice and data services.

"At present, we were relying more on direct sales. Now, we will appoint channel partners in each city to ramp up our presence," he said.

Even within the IPTV space, it is the PSUs BSNL and MTNL who are more active.

As per industry estimates, there are 50,000 IPTV users in the country, out of which 30,000 are with Aksh.
