BEML to set up aerospace unit in B'lore

Defence PSU Bharat Earth Movers (BEML) has proposed to set up an aerospace unit in Bangalore, Lok Sabha was informed today.
"BEML proposes to set up an aerospace unit in Bangalore and it has been allotted 25 acres of land in SEZ Aerospace Technical Part by the Karnataka government," Defence Minister A K Antony informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply.
He said the defence PSU has proposed to set up facilities for manufacturing ground support and ground handling equipment, aerospace components, sub-assembly of aircraft structures and defence offset related work.
Antony said BEML is also proposing to add facilities for aerospace manufacturing at its plant at Mysore.
Answering another query, the Defence Minister said supply of indigenously-developed Light Combat Aircraft to the IAF will be commenced in 2011-12.
"The supply of 20 aircraft is planned to commence from 2011-12 and is likely to be completed by 2013-14," he said.
The scheduled date for initial operational clearance is December and the Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) has received an order from the IAF for supply of 20 such aircraft.
