Arun Batra, country head of Brightstar Telecom, said, "Wireless service in India is expected to grow exponentially in the near future. Even with a population of over a billion, it is still a highly under-penetrated market in terms of both wireline and wireless communication when compared with countries such as Korea, Malaysia and China. Brightstar's presence will provide increased availability of products and value-added services to wireless network operators, agents, dealers and retailers who serve the wireless telephony market in India. Also, with newer international brands entering India, there is a need to streamline logistics involved in the distribution of mobile devices and wireless services."

Brightstar operates 29 facilities in 23 countries worldwide and is expected to exceed revenues of $2.5 billion in 2005 with a 75 per cent year-on-year growth in wireless devices.

In 2004, Brightstar marketed, sold and distributed over 18 million devices globally from the industries leading manufacturers, this represents almost 3 per cent of the worldwide wireless devices sales.

This year the company expects to handle over 25 million devices. Brightstar is currently working with more than 160 network operators and reaching over 15,000 points-of"sale globally.
