BRPL, Nagarjuna & Hindustan Zinc Q3 results

Sales push BRPL net up 143%
 
Bongaigaon Refinery and Petrochemicals, a subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation, posted a 143 per cent rise in net profit to Rs 84.9 crore for the quarter ended December 2007, on the back of a 6.6 per cent rise in sales.
 
The Assam-based company recorded a net profit of Rs 84.90 crore compared with Rs 34.86 crore in the year-ago period. Net sales during the period stood at Rs 1,462.22 crore compared with Rs 1,371.57 crore, the company said in a release to the Bombay Stock Exchange.
 
Nagarjuna net increases 35%
 
Hyderabad-based Nagarjuna Fertilisers and Chemicals reported a 35 per cent increase in net profit at Rs 5.47 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2007, compared with Rs 4.05 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, on the back of a rise in revenues.
 
Total income of the company grew 27 per cent to touch Rs 625.64 crore, compared with Rs 491.20 crore last year.
 
Hindustan Zinc profits drop again
 
Hindustan Zinc, India's largest producer of the metal, reported a drop in profit for the second quarter because of a decline in prices of the metal used to galvanize steel.
 
Net income fell to Rs 785 crore in the third quarter ended December 31, 2007, from Rs 1,335 crore a year ago, the company said in a statement to the Bombay Stock Exchange. Sales fell 31 per cent to Rs 1,769 crore.
