Dass Electricals plans to expand in Maharashtra

City-based consumer electronics dealer Dass Electricals Trading has plans to expand its network of showrooms in both Pune and western Maharashtra.
Dass Electricals Managing Director Naresh Sareen told mediapersons that the number of showrooms in Pune would go up by three in the next few months. At present, the firm has seven showrooms across Pune.
"The company has earmarked Rs 6 crore for the expansion and the showrooms will come up in prime localities like Wanowri and K K Market as well as in suburban Chinchwad," Sareen said.
Dass Electricals also has plans to unveil showrooms in the western region of Maharashtra, typically in cities such as Nashik, Sangli and Kolhapur.
"We see a lot of potential in these locations as urbanisation levels in these areas are getting higher," he said, adding that the over 30 per cent growth shown by the organised retail business is sure to have a positive impact on these tier-II towns. Sareen, however, did not disclose the investments the company would make to enter these markets.
"The three cities will have Dass Electricals showrooms in 2007," he said.
The firm is also looking at increasing its relationships with consumer electronics and appliances makers to open exclusive stores for them. It currently runs two exclusive showrooms " one each for Chinese consumer electronics major Haier and Japan's Sony.
Sareen said the combination of two channels of multibrand and exclusive helps attract a larger number of customers and also works as an opportunity to display the entire range of products. He, however, did not spell out any plans for further alliances.
Sareen said that the company's turnover for the year 2005-06 was Rs 60 crore and it expected to cross the Rs 100 crore mark by the end of the current financial year.
