Development centre for hotel managers

BS Reporter Chennai/ Bangalore
With the hospitality sector booming, and with many business groups starting hotels, the demand for personnel to man them is expected to rise exponentially.

As part of the capacity building exercise, The Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Bangalore, popularly known as IHMB, will open an executive development centre (EDC), in Bangalore, Saturday.

IHMB, set up in 1969 by the Centre (it gave a grant of Rs 5 crore) and state governments, is ranked among the best in the country.

The EDC has state-of-the art facilities for training and research in the hospitality sector with organisation-based programmes, executive development programmes, and continuing education and refresher programmes for senior executives and faculty.

While inaugurating the facility, I M Vittalamurthy, Secretary, Department of Tourism, Information, Kannada & Culture and Chairman of the Governing Board of IHMB said, "The Executive Development Centre of IHMB will be a national centre of excellence for higher and ongoing education and training in the hospitality space. It is modelled on the lines of the top hospitality institutes in the US and Europe."

Launched as Food Craft Institute offering short term courses, the college was re-christened to its present name in 1983 and commenced offering the three-year degree in hotel and hospitality administration.
