Press Trust of India Bangalore

Cashing in on the'pro-Indian' sentiment, premium jewellery brand Ganjam has forayed into the Japanese market by tying up with Japan-based Citizen Jewellery.

Ganjam, the first Indian premium jewellery brand selected by Japanese Citizen Jewellery, has come up with seven special collections to cater to the taste and preferences of the Japanese market, Umesh Ganjam, Managing Director, said here.

These collections have been drawn from Ganjam's existing collections and modified to meet customer expectations in Japan, but the collections retain a strong Indian essence.

The Bangalore-based jewellery firm, which has a boutique in Mumbai and New Delhi, said these collections have a strong Indian signature, but with a contemporary treatment. Motifs include the traditional peacock and diamond-shaped ikkat.

Ganjam would use the strong brand and distribution and retail network of Citizen Jewellery to enhance their presence in the Japanese market.

The robust model includes showcasing the collection at various events, select Citizen Jewellery stores, seleted premium outlets and hotel venues, he said.

Citizen said it had selected Ganjam as it met its high quality standards and was in line with Citizen's brand image. The decision was also the result of a long association with Ganjam since 2002, said Takashi Akimoto, Director, Citizen Jewellery Company Limited.

The Japanese market has developed and grown rapidly in the last seven to eight decades and is currently, estimated to be around $100 billion as against India's $10 billion, said Umesh.
