J&J to develop solutions for diabetic care

Joe C Mathew New Delhi

US-based healthcare major Johnson & Johnson, a brand synonymous with babycare and cosmetic products in India, may partner with government agencies to develop innovative solutions for diabetic care in the country.

The company had set up Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Institute in four countries to provide comprehensive training on the latest practice standards, new diabetes tools and technologies to medical and para-medical professionals since October 2007.

A senior J & J official, however said it is too early to say if they have plans for a similar institute in India. Diabetes, which now affects more than 180 million people worldwide, is expected to affect 360 million people by 2030 and is one of the major problem areas in the domestic health sector.

Speaking on the sidelines of India Economic Forum today, Scott C Ratzan, vice president, Global Health, J&J, said the company is willing to explore all options to provide their expertise in controlling the diabetic epidemic in the country.

“India is the diabetic capital of the world and we are interested in partnering with Indian stakeholders to develop innovative solutions to tackle the problem,” he said.
