Jantakhoj to add 50 more clients

BS Reporter Chennai/ Hyderabad

Jantakhoj Infoservices Private Limited, a city-based people search and employee background verification (BGV) services startup, is planning to add 50 corporate customers to its existing clientele of 28 by the end of this calendar.

Currently offering three services – free online people search, business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-customer (B2C), Jantakhoj has on its portal a little over 500 million publicly-available records (or around 39 per cent of the Indian population).

“From time to time, we are revising and doing incremental indexing of the records. Digitising offline public information and merging it with the existing data base is also on the cards. This, however, is in the idea stage now,” Tarun S Bangari, founder and chief executive of Jantakhoj, told mediapersons here on Tuesday.

According to the Indian Association of Professional Background Screeners, the BGV industry in India is currently pegged at Rs 250 crore, which is a fraction of the US background screening industry estimated at $10 billion.

“These estimates cover the B2B (corporate employee background) verifications only. There are no clear estimates on the B2C (consumer) verifications like matrimonial, domestic help and tenant verifications. The B2C market appears to be in early stages right now and will possibly take a few more years to become an established market,” Bangari said.
