Brahmananda was an extremely affectionate and warm-hearted man. Certainly amongst economists he was exceptionally so.

When I arrived at the Bombay School of Economics in 1964, Brahmananda was the youngest professor.

There was some uneasiness below the surface, for Nath and I, fresh Ph Ds, had been recruited from abroad as readers and Ashok Rudra from Delhi as professor into a department that was entirely home-grown.
