AP imposes 'no work-no pay' rule

The state government has made the ‘No work-No pay’ rule mandatory for any future agitations like the two-week long ‘noncooperation agitation’ held by government employees, teachers and others working in public sector undertakings in the Telangana region early this year.
In its orders issued on Wednesday, the government directed all the heads of departments to furnish day-to-day reports and monitor those employees, who sign in the attendance register but do not attend the normal work during the agitation period while giving protection to those who attend to the duties.
The government also instructed the authorities concerned to initiate disciplinary action against the erring employees, including criminal action against those who disturb those on duty according to the service rules.
The decision attracted widespread criticism from employee organisations and political parties, especially in the Telangana region. They demanded immediate withdrawal of ‘GO 177’ that warns government servants of stern action, if they resort to any agitations after signing in the attendance registers.
