Cabinet panel to examine privatisation of agri colleges

BS Reporter Chennai/ Bangalore
Karnataka has announced the formation of a Cabinet Sub-Committee to examine the privatisation of agricultural colleges and universities in the state.

The state government runs two agricultural universities in Bangalore and Dharwad respectively. A number of government-aided agriculture colleges are affiliated to these two universities.

"Privatisation of education related to agriculture will enhance investment in research and development. This will also increase the availability of industry-ready qualified human resources. Also, the government will be relieved from the burden of running these universities and colleges," Karnataka's home and parliamentary affairs minister M P Prakash told reporters after the meeting.

The panel has been given eight days to submit its report to the government.

"We are keen on privatising agriculture education in view of the economic growth of the country. We can seek better participation from the private sector in this field," he added.
