Committee for revival of MAMC

The West Bengal government on Wednesday asked BEML, Damdodar Valley Corporation and Coal India to form a consultative committee for the re-opening of Mining and Allied Machineries Corporation (MAMC) at Durgapur. Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee said he had a meeting with chairmen of the three companies on Wednesday and discussed the revival issue of MAMC. A consultative committee would be formed by August 31 and it would submit a report by October 15, he told reporters here. The panel would finalise the shareholding agreement among the three, modernisation aspect as well as the business plan for MAMC. State-run BEML, DVC and CIL had formed a consortium for the revival of MAMC after its closure in 2002. The three were supposed to hold shares in the ratio 48:26:26, respectively.
Chatterjee said the state government had written to the Centre for re-instatement of CISF personnel for providing security of the closed plant.
He said thefts were taking place and private security would be brought in as a temporary measure.
