Press Trust of India Nandurbar (Maharashtra)
Over 60,000 chickens culled, vaccination begins

Over 60,000 chickens have been culled in Surat, Uchchaal and other areas of Gujarat, neighbouring Maharashtra's bird-flu affected Navapur taluka of Nandurbar district, official sources said today.

"We are going to vaccinate all chickens in the regions, which are close to Nandurbar, and all measures are being taken to control the spread of the virus," health commissioner Amarjit Singh said.

He said necessary medicines have been made available in all the hospitals to provide help to people in case of infection, adding that the situation was well under control and there was no no reason to panic.

The state government has already rushed 11 veterinary teams, and has set up a 24-hour monitoring cell in Surat.
