Food science, technology awards conferred

The Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India), the AFST(I), has announced its national awards for achievements in the different fields of food science and technology (FST) for 2005.
 
The awards relate to innovative approaches in the food industry, excellence in research, best published research papers and best feature articles.
 
The prestigious V Subrahmanyan Industrial Achievement Award has been conferred on Director and CEO of Food Ingredient Specialists Ltd, Chennai, B Raghuramaiah for developing and marketing unique and functional flavours, rated very high in the country and abroad.
 
CEO, Food Business of ITC Ltd, Ravi Naware has been conferred the HAB Parpia Award for his achievements in the field of planning and management of food-processing industries.
 
The award is in recognition of his technical, organisational and managerial skills in promoting corporate operations and making the Ashirvad brand of packaged foods a household name.
 
Recognising the service to the dairy sector through Operation Flood when in NDDB, Dr Ram P Aneja was conferred the Sharada Charan Das memorial indigenous FST award of excellence.
 
Narpinder Singh, Professor of Food Technology, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, has been recognised for his original and innovative research and contributions for expanding the knowledge base through dedicated research and knowledge. He was awarded the Laljee Godhoo Smarak Nidhi award.
 
The young scientist award has gone to Padyuman Kumar of Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology for stimulating high quality S&T research among young scientists in the field of FST.
 
The other award winners are: Pratap Chakraborty of Jadavpur University, West Bengal "� J S Sidhu award for his contribution to human resource development in FST as a teacher par excellence; IARI retired scientist Prof Susanta Kumar Roy "� J S Pruthi award for significant contributions to the development of fruits and vegetables processing industries in India; T Ramesh of CFTRI, Mysore "� Subhash Bhatnagar memorial award for his contributions towards industrial productivity.
