I-T Raids Delhi Nursing Homes

The Income-Tax department yesterday carried out day-long searches at several nusring homes in and around the capital.

Nursing homes where the searches were carried out include Sarvodaya Hospital, Pitampura; Roshanlal Hospital, Naveen Shahadra; Taneja Hospital, Preet Vihar; Sama Nursing Home, Siri Fort; Gupta Nursing Home, Dilshad Garden; Dr Rastogis Clinic, Hauz Khas; Sehgal Neurological and Diagnostic Centre, East of Kailash and ADH Diagnostic Centre, Faridabad.

The searches commenced in the early hours of the day and continued throughout the day.

At least one of the nursing homes had refrained from having its books inspected by the I-T officials and said that the books had been stolen. That nursing home had also filed a first information report in a police station to report the theft.

 

Finance ministry sources said that over 20 lockers belonging to two of the nursing homes have been sealed while it has also come to the notice of the income-tax sleuths that three farmhouses had been purchased by the promoters of two of the nursing homes where searches were carried out yesterday.

Incidentally, the I-T is also carrying out a detailed investigation of nearly 500 farmhouses in and around the capital. It is suspected that owners of a large number of these farmhouses are paying negligible taxes and also evading stamp duty when the purchase of their land is registered.
