Maharashtra to get new finance secretary

Subodh Kumar, principal secretary in the finance department and currently doubling up as the acting finance secretary of Maharashtra, is likely to be appointed as the next finance secretary.

As per convention, the post of finance secretary in Maharashtra is held by an officer of additional chief secretary rank.

But the state government has been unable to find an officer of the same rank with background in finance even two years after the retirement of the earlier incumbent O P Gaherotra.

Sources said chances of Chitkala Jhutshi, who is also of additional chief secretary rank and was the state's finance secretary before Gaherotra, coming back as finance secretary are dim.

In such a scenario, the only alternative before the state government is to appoint Subodh Kumar.
