The current CDP or master plan prepared in 1997 has already expired as its planning period ended in 2011. Hence, MUDA has got the revised master plan with the cut off date of 2031. It has been drafted by SAI Consultants, Ahmedabad, with satellite imageries. Initial approval for the draft has come from the government on August 1. The 1997 CDP covered 495 sq. kms. of which Mysore city’s extant is 156.70 sq. kms. However, an order of the state government has exempted 20 sq. kms. of this area and instead included seven villages expanding the LPA to 509 sq kms.
Land uitilisation, as seen from the current master plan, is fast rising in Mysore going far beyond the projected figure of 15669.49 hectares in 1997. In 2012, it has quadrupalted to 29390.26 hectares from 7568.77 hectares in 1997. It is estimated to reach 31171.31 hectares in 2031.
Estimates have been made keeping in mind the fast development of Mysore city. The neighbouring Nanjangud town, which is attracting increasing number of industries, is expected to have a population of 1.1 lakh by 2031 against last year’s population of 67,000. Considering the next two-decade growth, the master plan has proposed a number of development works in and around the city.
