Ntpc Plans New Plant In Chattisgarh

The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is planning to install new power plants in its "western region", which could be of 1000 mw or more. The western region of the NTPC covers Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Goa, Daman and Diu and Maharashtra.
The corporation is in process of setting up a plant of 1980 mw at Sipat in Chhattisgarh. If the plan takes shape, both Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will get considerable power from this.
The expansion plan of the company will be completed by year 2007 and it will increase the power production capacity from 5643 mw to over 11000 mw.

A present the NTPC has four power plants with installed capacity of 5643 mw namely Kawas 645 mw, Korba 2100 mw, Vindhyachal 2260 mw and Jhanor-Gandhar 648 mw.
The also manages a captive power plant of 270 mw capacity at Balco in Chattisgarh.
The NTPC, according to well-placed sources has an expansion plan for Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power project, besides establishment and commissioning of two new thermal power stations at Maharashtra and Gujarat.
The expansion of Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power will increase the capacity by 1000 mw. The company has recently submitted its proposal to Central Electricity Authority.
The Vindyachal Super Thermal Power project has a production capacity of 2260 mw. The proposed power stations will use coal from Umrer and Saoner collieries in Nagpur.
The National Thermal Power Corporation has charted a plan to become 40000 mw unit by 2012 added the sources.
Similarly the Madhya Pradesh State Electricity Board is going to set up a power plant of 60 mw capacity at Madikheda on Sindh River in Shivpuri.
The first phase will have two units of 20 mw capacity and the second phase will another unit of 20 mw capacity. The project will be completed by 2004.
