Investments attracted by the state: Rs 8.8 lakh crore. (However, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Union commerce and industry ministry, puts it at Rs 14 lakh crore.)

Implementation status: Under various stages of implementation

MoUs signed: 93, of which 48 in steel sector, 28 in power, three in cement, three in aluminium, one oil refinery (IOCL), four in ports, the rest in downstream parks in the steel and aluminium sectors.

Investments proposed by companies that have signed MoUs: Around Rs 7 lakh crore.

Investments actually received
Steel sector: Rs 56,090.34 crore out of proposed investment of Rs 2.13 lakh crore.
 
Power sector: Rs 20,000 crore (estimated) of the proposed total of Rs 1.09 lakh crore.

Aluminium: Rs 15,000 crore (estimated)

Ports: Rs 4262.44 crore

Jobs created by companies that have signed MoUs
Total jobs created (direct) by all investors: 39,104.

Steel: 31,164, which includes 22,399 local jobs and 8,765 outside the state.

Aluminium: 5,474 (3,657 within the state and 1,817 outside).

Cement: 1,502.

Power: 964.

Land allocated to companies that have signed MoUs
Steel: 20,343.31 acres, against requirement of 33,147.96 acres.

Aluminium: 7,688.95 acres, compared to requirement of 10,838.5 acres.

Power: 4,840.16 acres, compared to requirement of 11,859.2 acres.

STATUS OF MAJOR PROJECTS
STEEL SECTOR

POSCO INDIA
Capacity: 12 million tonne per year steel mill proposed near Paradeep, 8 mtpa in Phase-I.

Total land needed: 4,004 acres, of which 2,700 acres needed for 8 mtpa capacity. Idco has handed over 1,700 acres. Transfer of remaining land for Phase-I pending, owing to non-deposit of land cost worth Rs 54 crore by Posco.

Mining lease: State government has already recommended Khandadhar iron ore mines spread over 2,500 hectares in favour of the company. Responding to the Union mines ministry's missive, the state government recently sent a revised recommendation over the notified area of the mines.

TATA STEEL
Location: Kalinganagar, Jajpur district.

Capacity: 6 million tonnes.

Project status: Construction work underway. The company expects to commission a capacity of 3 million tonnes steel by March 2015.

JSPL
Location: Angul.

Capacity: Six million tonnes steel plant and 810 Mw CPP.

Project status: 1.5 million tonnes steel capacity and 810 Mw CPP commissioned.

Hurdles: JSPL is yet to be allotted captive mines or ore linkages. The company has projected an iron ore requirement of 325 million tonnes in the next 25 years.

POWER
SESA STERLITE
Location: Bhurkamunda near Jharsuguda.

Capacity: 2,400 Mw coal-based plant.

Project status: Fully commissioned.

GMR KAMALANGA ENERGY LTD
Location: Kamalanga near Dhanjanal.

Capacity: 1,400 Mw.

Project status: 1,050 Mw (three units of 350 Mw each) commissioned.

PORTS
DHAMRA PORT
Location: Dhamra in Bhadrak district

Capacity: 100 million tonne per annum.

Investment: Rs 3,600 crore (in Phase-I).

Project status: Phase-I commissioned, with two berths of 25 million tonne capacity. Dhamra Port has chalked out a Rs 10,000 crore second phase expansion plan. The port has sought 745 acres of land to facilitate its second phase expansion. The expansion will ramp up the port's berth strength to 25 and enable it to handle diversified cargo.

GOPALPUR PORT
Location: Gopalpur in Ganjam district.

Status: The port suffered a loss of Rs 250 crore owing to cyclone Phailin which struck Odisha in October last year. The port was affected yet again by cyclone Hudhud this year and is yet to resume operations.
