Accenture to up scope of India delivery centres

Accenture, the $14 billion global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing behemoth, is expanding the scope of work from its five delivery centres in India.
In addition to serving the needs of its clients through the offshoring model, the corporation is looking at moving a few of its own business processes to India. It is also looking at exploring infrastructure management for its clients in a major way in India.
Speaking about their expansion plans in India, Joe Forehand, chairman, Accenture said: "We are pleased with our performance in India which is among Accenture's most active developing markets. We have more than doubled the size of our workforce in India over the past year and have over 11,000 professionals across our India centres. We continue to see demand and will leverage the talented people here to expand our operations."
He however declined to give any specific roadmap in either investments that will be made for the expansion or the ramp in the number of employees. He said that "depending on our client requirements, we will ramp up our operations."
Forehand added that their Chennai centre will see aggressive growth in the near term as they are expanding their financial practices for their clients and "Chennai offers an attractive proposition for this practice."
He further noted that plans are on to move certain internal processes such as knowledge management and human resources to India centres.
Added Steve Rohleder, COO, Accenture: "Our delivery centres in India are important nodes in our Global Delivery Network, which is the backbone of Accenture's Global Delivery Model. Today, we offer a range of services including management consulting, technology and BPO services to clients in India and across the world and currently serve more than 150 clients from India."
Talking about tapping the Indian market, Sanjay Jain, country MD, Accenture India said: "We employ close to 500 professionals who work with clients in India and recently we have had wins such as Dabur and Indo-Rama for whom we manage their IT requirements. Total infrastructure management is another area which we are looking sharply and we intend to ramp up that practice in India pretty soon."
