IMT comes to Hyderabad

BS Reporter Chennai

The Institute of Management Technology (IMT), whose Ghaziabad branch is one of the top-rated business schools in India, would open its first institute in the south at Hyderabad on July 2.

This year, the new branch would only offer a two-year postgraduate diploma in management (PGDM) course with an intake of 120, for which admissions have been completed as part of a centralised process covering all its branches. Apart from Ghaziabad, it already runs B-schools at Nagpur and Dubai.

IMT Hyderabad director V Panduranga Rao told the media here today that over the next few years, the institute would introduce a full-time PhD programme and a few short-duration courses for working professionals.

The admission to PGDM would be based on the score in Common Admission Test (CAT) of the IIMs. The fee for the fully-residential programme this year is Rs 9.5 lakh for two years.

It would offer specialisation in investment banking and business analytics as well as in conventional areas like marketing, finance and operations. The current faculty strength is 13 and the institute plans to take the number to 55 in two years.

Rao said inspections by the All-India Council of Technical Education were going on, and that the approval is expected to come in a few days. The college is located on a 30-acre campus at Cherlaguda village near Shamshabad.

The campus has an academic block, hostels, faculty housing and a sports complex, and is Wi-Fi connected.

On the choice of Hyderabad for its entry into the south, Rao said the city is a growth centre and that where businesses flourish, B-schools would also flourish and vice versa. He said the city was already a major hub for IT/ITeS, pharma, biotech and financial services and is expected to see growth in sectors like semiconductor, gems and jewellery, apparel and aerospace. This made it an obvious choice.

Union HRD minister Kapil Sibal would inaugurate the institute on July 2, and chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and Union urban development minister Kamal Nath would also attend.
