Overseas Manpower Corporation to be set up

Chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today announced plans to set up an Overseas Manpower Corporation to take up the issues of labourers employed in the Middle East and other countries.

Addressing a function organised by the state government on the eve of May Day here, he said that Andhra Pradesh today stands third in the entire country in terms of the number of migrant labourers working overseas.

"There is an urgent need to create a separate body to help address problems faced by our labourers working overseas. The corporation will also help those who are planning to go abroad by providing necessary information and other support," he said.

The chief minister urged the workers not to look down upon the new economic policies and reforms as anti-worker but consider them as an opportunity to improve their own wages and the quality of life.
