More than a lakh animals expected at Pushkar

Pushkar, the world's largest animal fair, was flagged off on November 1. Over five lakh visitors were expected at the 10-day fair including a large number of international tourists.

 
At the fair, over a lakh cattle, camels, horses, sheep and donkeys are are expected to be bought and sold. Jewellery for animals made of silver and beads are another special feature of the fair.

 
To be held till November 9, the Pushkar Mela was also an important pilgrimage besides being a mega bazaar for camel traders.

 
Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) was the main organizer for accommodation at the fair.

 
Rajeeva Swarup, commissioner, tourism, of Rajasthan, said, "We expect 20,000 international tourists to attend this fair, a figure that is 30 per cent higher than last year".
