BHEL hit a high of Rs 467.50 before closing at Rs 457.90, up by 0.24 per cent. More than 6.54 lakh shares were traded on the BSE.
The counter surged in morning trades on the back of reports that the company has bagged five contracts worth Rs 2,700 crore from state-run power utility National Thermal Power Corporation, market sources said.
The counter has been attracting buying interest over a period of time on the back of a healthy order book and good future prospects.
