Sensex surges 274pts; HDFC rallies 4%

The NSE Nifty is up 73 points at 5,162.

HDFC has soared over 4% to Rs 2,835. ICICI Bank has surged over 3% to Rs 923, and SBI has rallied 2.7% to Rs 1,783.

Tata Steel has soared over 3% to Rs 803. Jaiprakash Associates, Hindalco and DLF have gained 2.8% each at Rs 258, Rs 191 and Rs 687, respectively.

Ranbaxy has moved up 2.5% to Rs 491. Wipro has advanced 2% to Rs 467.

Grasim and Reliance have added 1.5% each to Rs 2,674 and Rs 2,630, respectively.

Bharti Airtel has slipped 1.6% to Rs 913.

Out of 2,498 stocks traded so far, 1,425 have advanced, 1,005 have declined and 68 are unchanged.
