Seasoned fishermen began posting images of their own pike catches, which looked dramatically bigger and weighed less, after Putin's video went viral.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the military-clad assistant who was assisting Putin in the difficult task said Vladimir, be careful, she can bite.
There are speculations that the fish weighed between 11 kilos and 14.9 kilos, the report added.
Some political experts and Kremlin opponents often accuse Putin of turning daily news coverage into his own personal reality show.
