Telecom stocks were trading in red, with the S&P BSE Telecom index decreasing 17.63 points or 1.94% at 893.22 at 13:47 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Telecom index, Optiemus Infracom Ltd (down 4.52%), Reliance Communications Ltd (down 4.23%),Sterlite Technologies Ltd (down 2.51%),Bharti Airtel Ltd (down 2.51%),Himachal Futuristic Communications Ltd (down 1.96%), were the top losers. Among the other losers were OnMobile Global Ltd (down 1.2%), Bharti Infratel Ltd (down 0.87%), Vindhya Telelinks Ltd (down 0.68%), and Tejas Networks Ltd (down 0.42%).
On the other hand, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (up 19.36%), ITI Ltd (up 1.89%), and GTL Infrastructure Ltd (up 1.75%) turned up.
At 13:47 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 374.88 or 0.98% at 37731.99.
The Nifty 50 index was down 104.65 points or 0.92% at 11209.35.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was down 48.37 points or 0.37% at 12861.81.
The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was down 24.59 points or 0.57% at 4323.98.
On BSE,960 shares were trading in green, 1581 were trading in red and 216 were unchanged.
