From sports to chasing dreams (IANS Books This Weekend)

From suggestions for a perfect workout meal, to the world of cricket and distant dreams, the IANS bookshelf this week is pretty eclectic. Take a peek:

1. Book: Sachin Tendulkar: The Man Cricket Loved Back; Author: Various; Publisher: Penguin; Pages: 262; Price: Rs. 599

An anthology on the Master Blaster by ESPNcricinfo, the book brings together perceptive appreciation and anecdotes from teammates and rivals who played against and alongside Sachin Tendulkar.

So while teammate Yuvraj Singh calls Tendulkar his 4 a.m. friend, V.V.S. Laxman describes him as a "Master Morale-Booster".

With contributions from well-known writers like Ayaz Memon, Mukul Kesavan, Harsha Bhogle, Pradeep Magazine, John Wright and Greg Chappell, the book is a complete package, replete with images and interviews conducted with Tendulkar.

 

A great way to know the "God of cricket" up close, "Sachin Tendulkar" is a must read for lovers of the gentleman's game.

Young hairstylist Tuki's life takes an unprecedented turn with Faraaz, a tattooist, joining her upmarket Nancy's Factory workplace.

3. Book: Salt Water; Author: Shrey; Publisher: Penguin; Pages: 272; Price: Rs. 250

While trying to repair old friendships, Rishi finds himself drawn to the world of magic pills, endless parties and arbitrary sex - a world he escaped from after the death of his drug addict friend.

Unable to put a stop to this, Rishi's quest for redemption soon degenerates into an unstoppable ride into the nights of south Mumbai.

A part of the 'Metro Reads' series, the book has been described as "raw, uncut footage of an entire generation losing it, together, one shine party at a time.

4. Book: Don't Lose Out, Work Out; Author: Rujuta Diwekar; Publisher: Westland; Pages: 260; Price: Rs. 250

Fitness expert Rujuta Diwekar tries to debunk various myths and fads related to exercise, and attempts to demystify them by calling it a "science" which has the potential to combat ageing and lifestyle disorders.

In the book-cum-guide, Diwekar suggests that just 150 minutes of exercise a week is needed to stay fit and keep all lifestyle disorders away; calls a banana the perfect pre-workout meal; and says that the four R's

- rehydrate, replenish, recover and repair - should be followed post a workout.

The book has detailed chapters on topics like cardio, yoga and strength training, each charting out the nuances of pre-and post-workout diets.
