Letters: Be tough on Pakistan

This refers to the editorial “Crossing a red line” (January 15). The criticism of the media, particularly the electronic media, with regard to the coverage of the recent military tensions across the border is timely. News channels, in order to increase the number of viewers, forget that business considerations cannot ignore limits of reason, and that whipping up people’s emotions is a double-edged weapon. But the truth is that whether it is relations with Pakistan or Bangladesh, India needs to learn the art of showing firmness — without being arrogant. Of course, it is always a tough balancing exercise, with no success guaranteed for any particular approach.
