A case has been registered against the owner of a powerloom unit located on the outskirts, for allegedly producing a category of dhoti, exclusive reserved for handloom sector under Handlooms Reservation Act 1985.
Under the Act, 11 categories are reserved for handloom sector and those who violate this provision were liable for punishment and also legal action, police said.
Excise and Revenue department officials had carried out a raid in the powerloom unit at Vagarayapalayam near Sulur and found its owner Gnanasekaran allegedly producing bordered grey cotton dhoti reserved for handloom sector, officials said.
Officials lodged a complaint with police who registered a case against Gnanasekharan.
