Cong names candidates for Bengal assembly bpolls

Press Trust of India New Delhi

Narendra Nath Tiwari has been made Congress candidate from English Bazar and Rabiul Anam Chowdhury will be the party nominee in Rejinagar. Abdur Rehman has got the party ticket for Nalhati.

Two of the bypolls have been caused by resignation of Congress MLAs Krishnendu Narayan Chowdhury from Englishbazar and Humayun Kabir from Rejinagar. The two were poached by Congress' former ally Trinamool Congress and made Ministers in Mamata Banerjee government.

Byeelection in Nalhati was necessiated following the resignation of Abhijeet Mukherjee, son of President Pranab Mukherjee, after his election to the Lok Sabha from Jangipur constituency once represented by his father.

Congress and Trinamool Congress, which had contested the Assembly polls together nearly two years ago, parted ways last year after Mamata's party pulled out of UPA.

The Left Front has already announced its candidates for the bypolls.
