Copper prices were up by 0.21 per cent to Rs 384.85 per kg in futures trade today as speculators widened positions on the back of rising demand in the spot market amid a firm trend overseas.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in February traded higher by 80 paise, or 0.21 per cent, to Rs 384.85 per kg, in a business turnover of 1,183 lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in far-month April edged up by 60 paise, or 0.15 per cent, to Rs 388.10 per kg in 13 lots.
Analysts attributed the rise in copper futures trade to a firm trend at the domestic physical market on pick up in demand from consuming industries and a firm trend overseas.
