Counsel for the Madurai Kamaraj University, Issac Mohanlal, today withdrew from all cases concerning it.
The Supreme Court had recently given an interim stay on an order of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court setting aside the appointment of Kalyani Mathivanan, MKU Vice-Chancellor.
The VC was reportedly accorded a grand welcome when she entered the premises yesterday.

In a letter to the Vice Chancellor, a copy of which was released to the Press, the counsel said the University with the potential for excellence had been "deplorably reduced into a political podium by such a ghastly show--bursting crackers, asking young children to shower petals on VC etc."
He said the apex court order was only an interim one and responding to such an interim order was "very embarrassing."
The Madurai Bench had set aside the appointment based on the writ petitions questioning the qualifications of Kalyani Mathivanan to the post. It had observed that she did not possess the requisite qualification as per UGC guidelines and allowed her to appeal to the apex court, after setting aside her appointment.
