Discom officials set up illegal transformers, pocket money

The Madhya Pradesh Power Distribution Company has claimed to have discovered a major scam involving some junior officials who, in connivance with contractors, installed transformers for illegal supply of electricity.

"The probe so far revealed that 62 transformers were set up illegally by the officials in connivance with electricity contractors. Three of them were suspended while FIR was registered against two contractors," said R K Sharma General Manager of MPPDC said.

Five of these transformers were set up in Kachotia and Barkheli villages, 45 in Suthalia block, nine in Padlyamata village and three in Malawar block, Sharma said.

The accused thus pocketed lakhs to rupees by defrauding the discom, he said.
 

Rahul Thakre, an assistant engineer posted in Khilchipur, Sandeep Namdeo, a junior engineer at Sarangpur, and Padlyamata Line Inspector Kanwarlal Chouhan were suspended. Show-cause notice was also served to Biora area's assistant engineer, Umesh Pratap Singh.

The company has also filed an FIR against the contractor Naval Singh Rajput at Khichipur police station and against Mahesh Gurjar in Malawar and Suthalia police stations.
